Yes, it is a flying one, it was in the Berlin air show a couple of weeks back (search for "ILA Air show" or "Berlin" in the general discussion for more pics taken by Schatzi and Wasq). There were 5 Yaks there, 2 Yak-11's and 3 Yak-3's, one of each M, U and T, I believe. But I don't know if they've been re-engined, might as well be.

Oh, and I'd like to see more Soviet planes in AH. And give us the Brewster... ;)

That scoop on top of engine does not really improve the sight view...

Allisons have a down draft carb. Virtually every Allison powered fighter, save the turbo P-38 and the P-82, were fitted with an air intake above the engine. Inasmuch as these two Yaks are Allison powered, the scoop is required.
