Yes I know, you've heard it before.....
« on: June 10, 2006, 10:50:50 PM »
I'm writing this while I am still angry.  HTC will you please, please get rid of collisions.  I am so tired of seeing " so-so collided with you" as I dangle from a chute and watch him fly away chuckling and talking bad about my mama.
Just make it like you have for friendlies.  No damage. Then it doesn't matter what your frame rate is or your type of hookup.
This is a big pain in a lot of peoples hind quarters.
I know you purist out there don't like this but it is the only way to even out the playing field.

Okay, I vented.

Remember, you can't take damage from a collision that his PC detects. With the current setup, he now has some manner of damage. If it were changed to what you've requested, he'd be undamaged, and you'd still have been shot down.

That's my point. We would both be undamaged by the collision. If I'm shot down, so be it.  I can live with that. (matter of fact it happens a lot)

All I'm saying is because the collision has more to do with the type of computer someone is using than what is happening within the game, get rid of it.  Then everone would be equal regardless of the computer used.
Then when I go down in flames I can be happy. (wait, that didn't sound right)

Just curious, how often would you say you collide with others during a session of flying?  Say a session is 2 hours...

Howitzer, I don't really know. Tonight it happened twice. Just before and just after I left the orignal post.  Some days it never happens.
Once I was on someones six, in a turn at about 400. Next thing I knew BANG, I received a message I collided with someone. (not the guy I was chasing)
Never did see who it was.
If there was a way to make collisions not dependant on the computer used, or the day of the week, or the toss of a coin, or whatever it might be okay.  But until they can, in my humble and new to AHII opinion they should just do away with them.

The old Nomad in me prefers to think of it as "in-flight augering"

It happens to this 38G driver a lot too.  I could care less though.  I'm still not really dying and I get a new 38G everytime :)

Yes, ujustdied, and both RC pilots are looking at the same thing, however, online there are different viewings on different ends.  If his end sees a collision then he'll get damage, but if the other persons side saw a pass...20 feet away, he'd be saying "omgwtfhax" because he wasn't even close, see?

Umm Not so in all RC plan collisions... I once rammed my Avistar 40 into the local hobby shop owners 120 size stinger. lol

I leaned then that a plane 2 times the size of mine and with fome core wings dose much better in a mid air than my much smaller balsa winged aircraft.
I did how ever manage to leave a 1" dent in the leadeng edge of his wing, rubber marks all down the wing from my gear and I did strip his right aileron servo out. :D
But my plane had no wings left as they floated down in two and there was a High piched whine as my engine rapped up and a sudden stop lol.

I was real lucky though because my plane had imbedded itself into a really rotten log so it wad a relitivly soft face plant and it realy wasn't damaged to bad.
Just reglued the wings put some new covering on it and away I went. Of course I got all the glue and covering from his shop :)

EDIT:  I almost forgot I was the first guy to get into a midair with him in his 8 years of flying RC planes. :)

Turning off collisions with enemy aircraft would suck.

Imaging slashing though an emeny bomber formation without having to worry about colliding. Avoiding collisions is an integral part of air to air combat, particularly the gunnery aspect. Carefully avoiding the collision and slipping past the enemy by a couple of feet will land you the most hits on your pass.

Without collisions we'd all be flying at, into and though enemy aircraft while holding the trigger. I'd rather go watch TV with the wife than play in THAT AH arena.

Flayd1  here's what happens when RC plane hits ground after losing radio control due to electronic ignition interference.  Was a mighty P47D 92"  45 pounds.  slow rolled left and lumbered into corn field  LOL

Lemme know if you want to sell the car to re-finance the model plane.
... missions were to be met by the commitment of alerted swarms of fighters, composed of Me 109's and Fw 190's, that were strategically based to protect industrial installations. The inferior capabilities of these fighters against the Mosquitoes made this a hopeless and uneconomical effort. 1.JD KTB

Last night, it was 3 times, by LA's coming at me from the 8 and 4 o'clock positions while I was in a defensive yo-yo.  I lost elevators/rudder and they just kept going unscathed.  Maybe I should go back to dial-up so I'm the one with the slower connection...

I think someone came up with a good idea, don't know if it's coadable -

a) If BOTH FE's see the collision, there is a collision.
b) If only one FE sees the collision, there isn't one.
c) In the case of (a) BOTH parties take catastrophic damage.
