Well said.

And yes, i think part of the problem might be the large influx of "teens" - BUT:

Its the responsibility of the community (the "vets") to be a good example of whats appropriate and what not.

Looking back about 70% of the locked threads and BS (pardon that expression) going on are longtime players... not the generally blames kids.

Its everyone elses fault this community is degrading, not mine.... why dont the programmers do something?

So true Schatzi.  I've 3 long-time people on my bulletin board ignore list.  Same guys who detract more than they add.  Makes the boards much more enjoyable.

jumpin all over 2 guys for fighting each other is just plain stupid, this is a combat flight sim and players do it all the time.  I bet you guys are only riding him because he seems so worked up about it.  They are two different players as far as I know (have seen both in the SEA during Close Escort).

Dont start throwin stats out at me either, I looked.   It looks silly, but if it was in the MA, then any other player could have jumped into that fight too.

Now for all those who say they dont care about score?  Then why are you posting...me I DO care about my score a little, not enough to avoid bad situations or to stay off a buffs six, but I care.  :p
Score padders are an annoyance as far as I am concerned but not something that is ruining the game for me.

As far as what we have learned in this thread?  Nothing that we shouldn't have already known.  I learned that early in the morning I tend to ramble about things that really dont concern me........................... .......

My thought...

1) If money was handed out to a winner at the end of the month and I was interested in that money perhaps score might mean something. Money is not handed out so both have no real meaning to me as a part of this game.

2) If you shoot a buddy on the end of a runway for an hour what did you accomplish. When you run up against someone who can fly both that guy and you know who the better pilot is. Score only has value to those who can back it up in the air and not on the score pad.

The game is a contest of individuals. Kinda like chess in its most basic sense. It is also a contest of teams, not unlike football. You plan your strategy based on what you are up against.

I fail to understand why it's such a big deal unless those folks can't beat a scoho in the air. If that's the case maybe some training is in order.

Hmm... Okay, My Bad!  Sorry about that 2bighorn.

Super, I'm 36 if you're taking notes... So there are plenty of people older than me.

Of course now I'm wondering who the heck it was that I'm thinking about.

Just so there isnt any confussion on my age, i am 19 but will be turning 20 in November.  I am a 4 1/2 year vet of this game, spend 2 1/2 years playing in the h2h arenas and now a year and a half in the MA.  But i do understand what you guys are saying about the age thing.  Now that it is summer, we will have many younger kids playing this game, which i will admit does become an annoyance.

EagleEyes,

You may not wanna believe this is but playing for 4.5 years and you're now at 19 means you began as a young kid.  Like you the youngun's gotta start somewhere. The fact they are enjoying the game means they may evolve into one of many of the folks that make the game so much fun! :)

In case some of you havnt noticed:

THIS IS A GAME

We are not real pilots, we did not fight the war.

If you are this obsessed with points and cheating in a game, how do you deal with real life?

Let it go.

Maybe some of you should be playing with Barbis instead of war planes

It was my mistake to mention score padders in the same sentence. So let me try again.

It is the fact that there are more young players subscribing than ever before. They see and play game differently and for different reasons than older guys do. They also tend to pick bad habits faster, if given chance, than older players, especially if there's enough older players being bad example, which again many are, simply because they get away with it.
At the same time, HTC is treating gameplay ethics as form of cheating, under the carpet.
Ethics is not something to be put into obscurity, instead, HTC should be very vocal about it.

On the end, it does not matter what players do, but HTC. Players already do what they can, they fly, they do skins, scenarios, they teach, make maps, they fight, have fun (or not), they vulch in DA and some pad the score.

Kurt, I remember three kids from Fate, Paul, TheBest and Bally. Don't know which one you've mistaken me with.
I wasn't 15ish when I left. I was 15 years older than you and unless something has changed, I still am.

Come on.
After I left Fate I've spent a year in TA, working with new players, lots of them were kids. If I say that they play game 'differently' you can assume I know what I'm talking about.
After TA, I did the same in DA. For the most part, majority of the kids were OK. It was bad only when 'vets' did misbehave and kids started to do the same.
Lots of players 'quietly' complained about via emails to HTC. Later on here on BBS. And what happened? Those who complained where accused of whining by those who rarely if ever used DA. Some where banned from BBS because they were vocal about it. The killshooter was turned on. According to HTC we were NOT using DA as intended, therefore we were punished instead of perps, who are still doing the same, although not as much, simply because there's not much going in DA and there's not enough players to spoil their fun.

Now, there are the score padders. Similar situation. We shouldn't talk about it. Just pretend all is OK, until it grows out of hand, then we'll get smacked by HTC with solution nobody will like it.

Those who talk about it are labeled as 'whiners' in good  ol' AH BBS tradition. Strangely enough, labeled  by those who whine the most about everything else.

Is ranking so important? No. If it goes away, there will be something else to abuse, there will be those who will abuse it, there will be those who complain and talk about.

According to some, talking about is bad for the game. Maybe. Or is just that new players won't find about it (and how's dealt with it) upfront, but later down the road. The way how HTC deals with, it seems to me that abusers actually get encouraged, because they get away with it.

As for 'come on'... Maybe in next game...

Here's an idea, dont pay attention to score at all and the padders don't bother a bit.
