Which part of the progressive definition is 'using mustard gas for racial cleansing'?  The people of Iraq seem pretty cosmopolitan compared to some of the countries over there, but I suspect it is in spite of Hussein, not because of him.  He was a real danger and guilty of war crimes.  I'm not sure we had the 'clear and present danger' stuff in-line for the invasion (which seems ill timed), but the world is a better place without him in charge of a country.

The people of Iran are very western in their lives, rock n roll music, fast food, jeans & a lot of them want less restrictions from their govt. but their govt. hates us & wants us dead & props up terrorism & stirs up the radicals. What does them being a modern, progressive, educated country have to do with anything.

Radical Islam needs destroyed if we are to live in safety, so kill 'em all. If ya can't beat 'em, join 'em.

Yea right.... let's start the draft at Berkley then move on to MIT. Dood you must have just fell off the turnip truck. This Country could'nt put squat together with a draft (which is what it would take). The Liberals would riot in the streets with the mere mention of a draft.

We have a choice as to where we wage the conflict. We can wait for them to come to our shores and then react or we can go somewhere else with an invitation to engage in conlict. I'm an over there kind of guy. As long as we keep them occupied elsewhere they are not concentrating on destroying people and objects here.

That would work if terrorism was a zero sum game. If there were a fixed number of terrorists in the world, and every dead terrorist = 1 less terrorist.

In reality terrorism isn't a zero sum game, and there are probably far more terrorists in the world today than there were before the Iraq invasion.

Russia used similar logic in their invasion of Afghanistan. The generation of "freedom fighters" that fought in that war are amongst the leaders of the current generation of anti-western terrorists.

I suspect the final outcome of Iraq will be a larger, better trained and equipped anti-western terrorist movement.

That's what most reasonable people fear Nashwan. Terrorism is an idea, a thought process. When one terrorist is killed, their brothers, father, cousins, friends, etc. etc. all want revenge.

It sucks, but what is the world supposed to do? Man I don't have a clue, but I know I don't want my govt. to just roll over & pee on itself. Better to go down fighting than try to placate your enemies.

We have so many people on here that have the answers to all the worlds woes, we should form our own country & government :lol

Education is the key to getting rid of religious fanatics.  Iraq was well on that path.

Saddam used poison gas on his people because they were trying to overthrow the government.  It was almost a civil war.

Saddam did kill those who disagreed with him, and who tried to oust him from power.  But lets look at the alternative.  When the most technologically advanced country in the world tried to liberate the people from Saddam, tried to let them form their own government in which they could vote whomever they wanted into office, the people were simply too hatefull of each other.  The religious groups wanted revenge on each other, others simply wanted the Americans out at any cost.

The Iraqi people didnt need liberating.  They needed someone who would steer them slowly but surely away from fanatical muslim views, towards the more prosperous ways of the West.  And I think thats what they had.

Oh, well, then, I guess it's ok.  Thanks for clearing that up, I didn't realize he had a _reason_.
