Hey why does skuzzy reset the map every wednsday? If he does this, no one will be able to win a war in a week...why cant you let us finish the map and call that map one campaign?

With so many people doing so many things in the server, it needs to be reset to clear out any corrupted data or tables that are stacking up. The effects of this can sometimes be seen in the TA when all the convoys get stuck, the ack stops firing, the number-in-arena counter gets stuck, and other random anomalies occur. One time in AHI, the TA was left stuck like that for a couple weeks, and boy was it weird. :D

Yeah, every now and then the TA gets into the Twilight zone. Time to call for the Ghostbusters then... Skuzzy to the rescue usually. :)

Now in the MA, with all those people online, I guess the "weird stuff" happens a lot faster. Hence the at least weekly reset.
Besides, some of the very big maps are hard to reset and after a week on the same map... before everyone logs due to boredom, the map gets reset manually.

And another thing. The maps are clustered. each week we get a different cluster with different maps that get rotated automatically. Skuzzy posted the lists in General.... you can do a search for them.

The TA type arena sticking is not table corruption. It is simply a clock roll over, that is the sizeof(long) by Mill Secs. I.E. aprox 28 days.

The map reset on wednesdays, is simply the best method we have found over the past 7 years. We used to do it other ways.

before the manual reset every wednesday maps were up for 3 weeks plus sometimes. other times a map has been reset in 45 minutes (i believe that is the record for a new map popping up)

cornfused.... sizeof(long) = 4 bytes on 32bit hardware.... :)

But assuming you meant signed MAX LONG

2^31 * 1/1000 * 1/3600 * 1/24 ~= 25 days

try using unsigned MAX LONG

2^32 * blah blah ~= 49 days

OR try using long long

2^64 * blah blah > 500000 millennium :O

If rooks can't win a war in that timeframe..... :lol
