I don'y GV much, except to defend bases from vulchers.

But I would like it so you can NOT see enemy GV Icons.

As it is now when your in a GV you can't see an enemy GV icon (except for PT boats) but when your in a plane you can. I realize it is so you can't easily range another GV in a GV fight.

I would like it where no matter what your in you can NOT see the enemy Icon. What good are trees if you're in a GV and your big red Icon is yelling at the plane above to BOMB Here. I am sure the LTARS and other GV lovers would love this.

I would love to here a respnce from HT as to whether this is a possiblity. I e-mailed them about a year ago with this suggestion with no responce, well I've e-mailed them three times on different stuff and have never had a responce. Probably shouldn't have said that.

Anyway hopefully they will think about it. And possibly respond.

Anyone else Like or dislike this idea?

The GV Icon is short 1.5 out IIRC. It has been said many times before "Whats on screen is a poor representation of the detail the eye can pick up.". Also I have found that a well hidden GV the icon is well hidden in the trees also . It can only be seen from certain directions at certain angles.
What needs looking at is the invised GVs hiding in Bomb craters. Drop a 500 lb bomb you can almost watch em run to it to hide from AC.

Maybe I am being stupid but if there was no icon....how would you know if it was a friendly ????

Friendlies would still have the green icon - only enemies would be without.

Perhaps enemy GV icons could be a smaller font too?

I personally would be quite happy with the no icon thought but in reallity I think it would not stop the good pilots bombing gv,s as efficiently as they do now. I guess the best part might be that if you up a tiger you wouldnt attract the whole air force. I think alot of the time gv,s are bombed by info given from the tower or friendly gv,s but I wouldnt mind trying it.

I think the this idea is a good one. Usally when I'm flying around and there are GV's running around I can pick out the little black ant running accross the ground fairly easy without being in icon range so on open ground I don't think it would matter much one way or the other but once you get your tank in some dence trees that red icon should go away.

The other day I was attacking a Vbase and there was a panzer hiding really well under some thick trees. He had the perfect cammo skin on and you could just kinda see him if you flew right down to tree top lvl and were looking right at him. No one would have known he was there untill someone went to let troops out and he shot at them BUT that BIG FAT RED ICON was sticking out above the trees like the tank driver was standing on top of his tank fireing signal flares up at the planes.

What good are cammo skins and trees if you cant use them to help hide your tank???

I'm happy with current icons.

When in GV you have almost unrestricted view and lots of time to look around for another GVs. You dont need to pay too much attention to drive, you dont risk to crash, and zoom in tank main gun position far better. You can stop, turn engine off and sit for hours listen to enemies engine sound and looking around.

In plane your view is limited, you cannt look wherever you want and as long as you want w/o risk of crash. There are almost no chance to determinate GV's type w/o icons (exept shooting ostwing and may be M16).

I agree with this

Gv's cannot properly hide........... at various angles their icons shout out at passing overhead aircraft..................... ...

I suppose a compramise would be to shorten the range still further to say 500

Shortening the range is good. Remember that a lot of vehicles hid in trees during the war, almost undetected, except by reconnaissance aircraft. That would be another good reason to have recce patrols - they would 'spot' the enemy vehicles from further out.

--- although it's a bit gamy, in RL they wouldn't have known until they developed the film later. Still, it's a good reason to have reconnaissance aircraft though.

-- then again, planes like the Storch, Grasshopper and Lysander would have had spotters. They would have seen enemy GVs at greater range.
