flickering!
« on: June 19, 2006, 08:46:09 AM »
I tried to search this topic but didnt find the exact sym. here!
I listed below the Hardware I have but everything is fine and I am running high-rez pack! My frame rate is always above the 60fps mark and shoots
to a 140fps, so to speak.!!
But I see during a crowded screen, my screen actually flickers!! Almost like losing a few seconds of time.
I havent try to reduce the res to see the results but my crtl I screen shows
I have plenty of memory and plenty of Vid mem!!

I know there is something that is causing it and I am going to try a lower res and see the results! I really dont want to go down in res! I want to upgrade whatever I need to achieve the res results that I enjoy!

So maybe someone has or had this problem!!
Thanks Again!! Good Hunting!

Hi Bandit, just from my limited knowledge, here's a couple of things you can try.

Run a sweep for spyware, viruses etc first.

From your desktop click cntrl  alt delete.

This will bring up your task manager. Under the processes tab, you should be running no more than 15 to 20 processes. (I have mine down to 15 before I launch AH). AH is a bit of a resource hog, so the fewer applications you have running in the background before you launch, the better. Be careful here, some applications must be kept running.

There are a couple of programs you can use to help you here. enditall and FSautostart are popular. I use FSautostart and it works pretty well.

Not sure what you are running for a sound card (is it a card or onboard sound?). If it's onboard (likely AC97) try this.  from your desktop, click start then run. Type in dxdiag, and let the window load completely (it will take a few seconds) Click on the sound tab and set the acceleration slider to the 3/4 position (it will be at the full acceleration by default, move the slider one notch to the left).

Also, I'm not sure if you have sufficient memory to be running the high res pack. Do a search of the BBS here for more info on that.

Lastly, you should also do a search for the best driver for your video card. Sometimes the latest drivers aren't the best.  If I'm not mistaken, Skuzzy is running the same card as you, and would be able to tell you the best driver for it.

Hope this helps a bit.

cheers,
RTR

Thank you for replying!
I have installed the Soundblaster Live card!
I have disabled the onboard card! I understand the RC card on the mobo
takes alot of memory!
I will check the services that are running! This FS autostart seems to be
a good program to stop services and programs running!

I am going to try that later tonight and se ethe results!
I will leave a message for skuzzy and see what drivers he is using!

Hi-res pack requires AT LEAST 1.2Gb memory + OS etc.

By flickering do you mean stuttering i.e. mini screen freezes?
AMD Phenom II X6 1100T
Asus M3N-HT mobo
2 x 2Gb Corsair 1066 DDR2 memory

I currently have 1.5G corsair value memory!
I just purchased corsair XMS 2G.
So, I have the whole cimputer running on the 1.5G

I had previously been told that the Omega Drivers work best for the
X800 card! But, I didnt understand what I was downloading and never installed them!
