Skuzzy! X800
« on: June 20, 2006, 10:35:05 AM »
I have a x800 and think I screwed something up here!
I was using the calayst 6.5 drivers
I installed the Omega drivers 3.8
The orginal problem was a shuttering or flickering in the video
during a battle the new drivers didnt help but I think that the gameplay is
more stable! Mt Frame rates are a steady 74-75. My refresh rate on the the monitor is 85Hz.
I am also using dual monitors which I known AH doesnt support, but I did
like the cloned two monitor mode in the calayst 6.5 drivers.

I understand tha tyou have a X800 ATI card also! What drivers did you use
and what settings do you have?

My Hardware:

System Manufacturer: Gateway
       System Model: W3410
BIOS: Phoenix - Award BIOS v6.00PG
          Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3200+,  MMX,  3DNow,
~2.2GHz
             Memory: 1534MB RAM

4.12 doesn't support X800 fully. they are to old.  I using 6.5 right now with no problems.  AMD 64 3200+  with 2 gig of ram and Nforce 3 MB.  Video card I have is also the X800XL 256 meg and I run at 1280x1024x32 at 4xAA at 512 textures.  Avg FR is 50-75.  Very rarely does it go below 40 fps.

already loaded 3.8
« Reply #3 on: June 20, 2006, 01:45:44 PM »
Hi!
I already loaded the Omega's 3.8.252 drivers.
I been told that un-installing them, even with driver cleaner is very
difficult.
I do, see a difference, in the more stable game play! Except!
The shuttering during a heavy battle is still there!
With all the settings in the Tool Tray! What are the correct settings
for AH!

Actually, the 4.12's came out after the X800 cards did.  I have an X800XT and use the 4.12's.  I will not move up to the later drivers as ATI has dropped the control panel in favor of the Catalyst Control Center, which requires .NET be activated.

4.12
« Reply #5 on: June 20, 2006, 02:19:52 PM »
I have the Omega 3.8.252 drivers
I have the framework.net installed, because as you said using the control panel.
Should I use the 4.12 drivers and if so, where can you download them?
Can you still use the ati control panel?
So, you dont need the framework using the 3.8 or the 4.12??

Confused here???

The ATI Control Panel does not require the .NET framework.  The Catalyst Control Center does.  All the 4.x drivers use the ATI Control Panel.  Many of the early 5.x drivers have the option of using either Control Panel, or Control Center.

4.12's are still available from ATI's site in the archive section.

4.12's work great
« Reply #8 on: June 26, 2006, 11:23:46 AM »
Thank you for suggesting the 4.12 drivers for my video card which is the
X800 ATI. At that Omega Site if I wanted to use the span mode (stretched mode) I can stull use the 4.12 drivers and the CCC panel!

My goal was trying to stretch a single monitor across three screens.
I found a device called Matrox Triple head to go!! Very priceyyy!! almost $300.00!!!

Thanks Again!

At the end of Page 3 of the "Previously released drivers" page is a link to drivers released before the 5 series.

Do not use the Catalyst Control Center.  Use the ATI Control Panel for optimum performance.

Thanks for the reply! I was concerned about using the CCC!
But with your advice I will use the tools with the 4.12
the only reason why I did want the CCC, was the ability to have a
wide screen with a future wide LCD monitor!
