My problem
« on: June 21, 2006, 08:08:36 AM »
I updated my video driver yesterday because I was getting a BSOD message about my nv4_dll (something like that). I flew last night without any problems at all.

Now I find if I fly, talk, and look around ( i.e. 2 buttons pushed) I get  a screen freeze followed by a new BSOD message bugcode_usb_driver

Never happened before this patch.

can I say.... Help.

Regards

p.s. just tried to play without using the vox ( i disabled the transmit switch) and It locked up again, as my squadie was talking and I was looking around. Not all the time though. but one is enough.

Hi CLifra,

I sent a dxdiag to Skuzzy who could see nothing wrong. Anyway I have installed and uninstalled 2 other sets of video drivers all have the same problem. Lock ups and blue screen though I cant get to the blue screen now with the lock up have to reboot.

XP Home Edition, SP 2
1 gig of RAM
Nvidia GeForce 6800  256 mb RAM  presently 82.12 drivers
DirectX 9c

Its all abit vexing, and now the con is on, we wont see anyone till next week.

The freezes are random now, its hard to put a finger on it.

Cheers

Ok, go to this site and download this process list viewer.
http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/processutil/processutil.htm

The at a command prompt type process > process.txt.

Post the text file here.

You should run AH with the lowest number of active processes needed to keep windows running. I run with 13 pocesses.

Are the BSODs still happening?

Hi Clifra,

I am sorry not too hot with this pc stuff. I downloaded that link then double clicked on it a small box came up then disappeared. What am I doing wrong?

I use autostart to shut down alot of stuff, but there is some which I dont know about so I leave them alone I think it leaves me with 20 or so processes. I think my machine is pretty fast enough, (3.1mhz) to handle it.  Also this is all happening since patch 3.

Hey Bruv  For me the game now looks up and now the only way I can get out of it is to hold down the button on the tower until it reboots. Cannot tab alt out of it.

Cheers, I appreciate the help.

When you installed new drivers did you use a program like Drivercleaner?  If not, you should do so prior to installing different ones.  You can get it at http://www.driverheaven.net and it's free and works well.  Next, in your computer bios do you have fast writes enabled? If so, disable it.  Another thing you might want to reinstall ah 2.08 full.  Don't worry, it will leave all your setting pretty much intact.  While your at it, try removing your sound drivers and reinstalling them.  As for drivers for the 6800 you might want to try http://www.omegadrivers.net and grab the 1.6693 version.  They are very stable and I used them on my 6800 until I went to the 7800.  They haven't made any new versions of omegadrivers for the nvidia cards and consentrate on ati drivers for the time being.

Hope this helps you out.

All the best...

Try the 81.98 nvidia drivers , i had BSOD's and random crashes to desktops with the 82.12's . DO NOT use the 84.12's , they consistantly crash AH within 15-20 minutes of game play, it happens everytime bar none . Right now im testing the 91.28 nvidia beta's these seem to be stable aswell .

Thanks guys, I do use drive cleaner, following SILATs instructions to clean the drivers and reinstall the next version.

I cant (dont know how to) adjust the bios settings as it says that it is display only (Dell machine). I was using the Omega 1.6993 when I upgraded to patch 3

I have disabled the writes enabled through the advanced tab on the display panel.

I have turned down the  graphic accelerator, less than 3/4 it the program doesn't get past the desktop. 3/4 or more it hangs at the splash screen

I have done a complete reinstall of aces high.

I still cant get past the splash screen.

a long weekend is coming

Ok, If you can get a list of running processes that will help. 20 is still to many.

YOu can't run that program by just double clicking it you need to run it from a DOS window. Put the program in your c:\windows folder and the click start--> run, type CMD and hit enter. A command window will appear, type process >process.txt and hit enter. It will create a file called process.txt.

20 is stil lto many processes to have running.

try disabling the rundll32 .exe and then disable nvidia driver helper service in the services icon in control panel , thiss has seemed to help others with this issue . Google nv4.dll error , you arent alone with this issue .

38ruk. I disabled the rundll32.exe and nvidia stuff. That worked 80% better as in that it allowed me to get into the game and fly for about 20 mins. I was going to report it a complete success, but as I landed and was about to end the sortie it locked up :(

But it still helped alot. Thanks for that, and oh yeah I googled that nv4 days ago, unforetunately there is no hard and fast fix to it, but thanks anyway.

We are now headed in the right direction.

Just had a brain wave and looked at the events tied to the latest lockup
The interesting thing to me at least is that the VSS is disabled in the services

From Eventid.net (great sirte for this stuff)
1) Go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools.
2) Run “Local Security Policy”.
3) Go to Security Settings -> Local Policies -> User Rights Assignments.
4) Double click on “Create global objects”. The correct default settings are “Administrators”, “INTERACTIVE”, and “SERVICE”.
5) Double click on ''Impersonate a client after authentication''. The correct default settings are “Administrators”, “ASPNET” (if you have the .NET Framework installed) and “SERVICE”.
Even if the settings are set correctly, you may need to “refresh” them to fix the problem. To do this, on each policy, remove one of the entries (“SERVICE” is probably the best to remove), then press OK to save the changes, and then go back in and add it back in again (click “Add User or Group...”, type “SERVICE” into the white box, and press OK). Then close the Local Security Settings box and reboot. If you are running in a domain with Group Policy, you might want to force a group policy refresh before you reboot by running “gpupdate /force”.

Looks like this is a problem related to the above event.

Also, when you shut off some of the non-esential services to reduce CPU load for playing AH you may receive event log entries that would normally not occur. Most of these can be ignored.

I doubt that these errors are related to your initial problem.
