Actually, I just remembered another fascinating book you might find interesting.

Pacific War Diary.

Basically a sailor's journal on a cruiser. Very enlightening to the daily life of the crew of a WW2 warship.

I found it a refreshingly different view of the war, and how miserable they must have been, compared to our cushy existance we take for granted today.

Given up for Dead - Bill Sloan

The Longest Winter : The Epic Story of World War Ii's Most Decorated Platoon - Alex Kershaw

Secret Soldiers - Philip Gerard

The first one is the best WWII related book that I have read so far.

"Stalingrad" by Anthony Beevor.

Amazing book.

It`s not WWII, but Vietnam instead, but one of the best books I have ever read, bar none, is "The 13th Valley".

In case you missed it, Enemy coast ahead by Guy Gibson.

The Aubrey serie by Patrick O'Brian (Royal Navy vs Napoleon's fleet). Excellent historical fiction. I dare say capital, upon my word!

I must also heartily endorse this series.  I read the entire Hornblower series by CS Forester and thought nothing could get better but I was wrong.  O'Brian is pure genius.
