A wish for the Target.....
« on: June 21, 2006, 11:48:50 AM »
Currently the .target command places the target due N of ur aircraft at the selected range. Its good to check where the guns are converging and how much they drop over distance.

My request is that HTC make it so that when selected the target shows up and stays directly in front of the aircraft at the same flight level. I think this would make it a better training tool. It would then also allow you to observe how much lead must be pulled and where your bullets go whilst manoevering......could help build the mental pictures....lead two notched at 2g turn, 5 notches at 4g turn etc. etc.

Maybe an alpha value can be assigned to it so that you can almost "see" through it if you set the range quite close. would want to manoever into a mountain now, would we.....

Just a thought.:aok

You mean by flying with the .target on and using it to shoot at other planes in the MA?  You do know that the target is not transparent or translucent, right?

i think what Midnight is saying is if we were to have that 2nd suggestion of an alpha value people would use it as for targeting assistance.  Game the Game

Maybe in the TA, but that would be out of order in the MA or any other arena.

They have the lead computing gunsight in the TA already, don't they?

Sorry...I must be dumb, but I dont get that point. The .target just puts up a white square in front of your aircraft. How can that be used to  help you target the nme. The reason I asked for the alpha value is because if the plane was being manoevered offline to learn how much lead needs to be pulled during a certain manoever, you shouldnt end up flyin into a mountain. Because when set to d400 or less the target pretty much fills everything in view.

If the target is changed to your suggestion,

1. The target would always be in front of yor aircraft, no matter which way it was pointing.

2. You would be able to adjust the alpha value so you could see through it.

If the target were available in the MA, then yes, people could set it up where it would be used to game the game, or cheat.

However, IIRC the target is NOT available online (or at least, when I tried to pull it up online it didn't work) so all the fears about people using it as an uber LCOS are moot to begin with.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

On that note, is there an lead computing site offline?

Gonna make a new post.
