I'm pretty sure this JU88 is an attempt at smashing all of the variants together. One role of the JU88 was as a night fighter, which had the fixed gun. Another didn't have the internal bomb load; that's why if you take the little bombs out, the bomb doors won't open (like the mossie). It's because you're in effect flying a "different" plane, except with the same flight characteristics.

The Ju88A-4 in AH predates the Ju88's having been pressed into service as a night fighter. The Ju88 was designed as a medium bomber and as a dive bomber, not as a fighter.
