lol what a thriller game, anyone seen it?
11 yellow cards and 4 red cards!
The Portugals played like barbarians and the Netherlands
are to dumb to make a damn goal, both dont deserve much more.
Now i hope England will kick them out!
The statement below is true.
The statement above is false.

Poor comrade Ivanov!...

Being a referee at such a show is no fun.

Added six minutes after second time!...

Minus two players for Portugal in quarter-finals. I wonder how many they will lose if they'll beat England.

It's good that in play-off all yellow cards from groop play don't count. Otherwise Ukraine could simply lose all the defense line. Oleg Blokhin already said that he's ready to go out and play in defense.

BTW, how ironic: Ukraine is the only Slavonic/East European team to make it to playoffs. First time since 1986 when Soviet team was beaten by Belgium in quarter-final because of a linesman mistake...

With Deco and perhaps ronaldo out for Portugal, things will be a little easier for England.  The amount of cards handed out was insane however the amount of diving by the portuguese and dutch was disgusting.  I hope England defeat Portugal and without too many yellows.

Twice the Dutech did not turn the ball back over the the Portugese after they (Portugal) had put the ball out of play due to injuries on the field.  BAD sportsmanship.

The Portugese cannot be singled out for barbaric behaviour...both sides were equally at fault.  I was really disappointed to se the Vigo head-butt incident though...THAT 'was' barbaric, unecessary and he should have been sent off.

It seems that the biggest competition in the world cup is to see who can act the most hurt after the slightest contact during the game... At one point during the Portugal game, one guy flopped onto the ground and didn't even bother feign to injury. He just laid there, head propped up on his bent arm, for about half a minute until his buddies surrounded him. Time was called, he got up, slowly, calmly, didn't care enough to even limp for a couple steps, and just walked away like he'd been awoken from a nice refreshing catnap.

I've seen sports where guys fake being well, and return to games with pulled muscles, damaged tendons and ligaments, even fractured bones... These futballers, at the slightest hint of contact, are on the ground, screaming and grimacing as if they're in the final stages of giving birth.

I have a pretty simple rule adjustment to fix this. Upon a foul, play CONTINUES for 2 minutes. The ref throws a marker like a beanbag at the spot of the foul. If, after two minutes, the player doesn't get up - then the whistle blows and you get a kick from the spot of the foul.

That should pretty much take care of the flops. If anybody else fouls during those two minutes, or a subsequent foul ensues - the player is automatically executed by a pistol to the head.

That will clean it right up.

Psst.  Dat's Saint Georges Cross.  Nuthin to do with the slightly insane king of the same name who wanted to marry a penguin.

Whups.. sorry.

No offence to brits intended.. I kinda like my pet pacifist brit neighbor. His eyes get big and round every time I load/unload the arsenal for range days... when his car was improperly parked (blocking my driveway) and I asked him to move it, he responded with great haste and vigor.

I'm sure the two situations are entirely unrelated.

The referee got the cards out too early i thought.  absolutely ridiculous booking Van Bommel after a minute.  just set the standard for the rest of the game.

should have let the game find its rhythm before going all traffic light with the cards.  it is the 2nd round of the World Cup, players are going to be fired up from the start and be flying into tackles.
I am not ashamed to confess that I am ignorant of what I do not know.

Better , an immediate evacuation of the "wounded" for at least 3 minutes.
