CH trim Q
« on: June 27, 2006, 10:18:49 AM »
i have CH stuff. ..on the stick there are trim dials. i also have trim (aileron /elevator) mapped to a hat switch on the throttle. i seem to have a hard time keeping the plane in good trim. one or the other doest seem quite right...stick dials awkward when things get hairy and hat slow , and setting auto angle is a *****.
wondering how someone else w Ch stuff works it. or if im doing something completely wrong.
          thanks

Don't use the trim dials on the CH stick to trim the plane.  Those dials are to used to trim the axis of the stick and not the plane.

What you might want to do is if you're using an externtal throttle like a Pro Throttle is to then program the throttle axis on the joystick for one of your flight control trims.  I've got the throttle on my CH Combatstick mapped for elevator trim and use the upper right had switch to trim my rudders and ailerons.

I use the CH USB fighterstick. The right most 4 way hat switch I have mapped to trims. I use em on the fly, say to  avoid compression in a fast dive ect.. On my USB PRO Throttle I have another switch mapped to combat trim. I have combat trim defaulted off but I toggle combat trim to clean and "recenter" my trims after a turn fight or manual trim session. Hope that helps with some ideas.

You didn't say "what " CH stuff you use.  Trim wheels on the Stick are as  AKA said.  THEY SHOULD NEVER BE MOVED .  They should be centered then you should calibrate your stick in Windows.  Once done you should calibrate in AH also.   Best thing to do after AH calibrate is move damper and dead band sliders up a tad on each axis.  Not to much that the stick is slow just a little tighter..... say another 5 or 6 mm higher on slider bar. In order to access each axis you need to click on that axis (right hand page) when in "advanced".  If you haven't high lighted the said axis the damper / dead band sliders look as though they are at 100 %, the top.

Once you have calibrated correctly your rudder / aileron / elevator trims will work perfect.   Stick trim wheels are for your stick calibration only.  Cockpit trim is on the dash board in each plane.  With Combat trim OFF those trims will work perfect and cockpit dials will best help you understand trim.

I have all CH stuff too, I have the trims set-up on my throttle, each control. Also have one button on the stick to turn combat trim on and off. In a pinch I can flip the combat rim on and off real quick to trim the plane out as I am at that moment.
