Any Love for the Wirbelwind?
« on: June 27, 2006, 04:30:16 PM »

I really have terrible hit chances with the Osty.  I get better success in an M-16 while it lives, but usually a cannon-bird will find me pretty quickly and end the sortie.

Here's some info:

In spring of 1944, the Inspector for the Panzer Troops (In 6) indicated that current flakpanzers in the Wehrmacht inventory were unsatisfactory, and that new vehicles should be developed with the following minimum requirements:

A rotating armored turret large enough to accommodate a three to four man crew.
A 2000m effective range
Twin guns
A sufficient ammunition supply
Maxiumum height, 3 meters
Full radio equipment onboard.
The Wirbelwind design met most of these requirements. Vehicle height was kept low by recessing the gun mount into the top of the hull. The recess allowed for a smaller turret design and kept the overall vehicle height well under the 3 meter limit. Addition of a hydraulic traverse to the turret allowed a traversing speed of 60o/sec. A total of 3200 rounds for the four 2cm guns was carried (with storage for spare barrels provided on the sides of the engine compartment).

The Wirbelwind was developed as a conversion for Panzer IV chasses which had been returned from the front for rebuilding. Armored protection on the hull varied because the chasses used for conversion included Ausf F through Ausf G Panzerkampfwagen IV.

I realize that another GV wouldn't be high priority at this point with CT comming soon, but YUMMY--> quad 20mm's to smack vulchtards with would absolutely make my day!!  :aok

Ya know how abused these would get?  Why even attack bases with panzers or tigers anymore?  Just send a bunch of ack stars of death to destroy everything...I think its a bad idea, and if some anomoly of online video gaming occurs and HTC does happen to add this then it should have a perk the same as a 262 if not higher!

How can you say it's a bad idea? You do know it has smaller guns than the Ostie, right? Just more of them. Kinda like a big M-16 that drives around at slower speeds. Your panzer, tiger statement doesn't float either.

Perks would be fine.  Lots of people don't spend what they have anyways.  We only have one perked GV currently, aye?

Look at that thing, we need this:aok .  Half the cost of the tiger(im not sure how much it costs).  I do alittle m16 work and there is nothin else but the tiger to spend those perk points on, i have seen alot of request for gvs but this is a one that they just have to do.

Make it the first perked AA GV and give it an anemic ammo load. That way you'll know where to drop the bombs from 10k...at the re-arm pads!

this should be a perked GV as it would be the most deadly mobile AA vehicle.
