Anyone live close to Newport Rhode Island?
« on: July 01, 2006, 05:37:08 AM »
Ive been offered to go on a trans-atlantic sailing trip next summer to Newport via shetland and back. The trip is set for late july/early august.

How is the weather that time of year, and do any of you live close enough to visit if i say yes?

5 people + maybe me. 3-4 weeks is the time they plan on spending so alot of things have to fall into place for me to be able to take that much time off from family and work.

Sailing across the Atlantic on a tiny sailboat?  Sounds like fun in theory, but in reality, isnt a sailboat just a tiny, smelly, prison-cell with no privacy?

Having made many summer port visits up there, I'd say the weather is pretty nice. Newport is a pretty nice place too. AT least from my experience.

The boat is a 45 foot Swan so very good size. Sould not take many days to cross if we go directly, but there will be atleast one stop.. prolly more.

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale,
A tale of a fateful trip
That started from this tropic port
Aboard this tiny ship.

The mate was a mighty sailing man,
The skipper brave and sure.
Five passengers set sail that day
For a three hour tour, a three hour tour.

The weather started getting rough,
The tiny ship was tossed,
If not for the courage of the fearless crew
The minnow would be lost, the minnow would be lost.

The ship set ground on the shore of this uncharted desert isle
With Nilsen
The Skipper too,
The millionaire and his wife,
The movie star
The professor and Mary Ann,
Here on Nilsens Isle.

So this is the talel of the castways,
They're here for a long, long time,
They'll have to make the best of things,
It's an uphill climb.

The first mate and the Skipper too,
Will do their very best,
To make the others comfortable,
In the tropic island nest.

No phone, no lights no motor cars,
Not a single luxury,
Like Robinson Crusoe,
As primative as can be.

So join us here each week my freinds,
You're sure to get a smile,
From seven stranded castways,
Here on "Nilsen's Isle."
