All of this is just going to make it easier to jump to a Conroe  platform, ive been an amd guy for quite some time ( my last intel was a 466 celeron ), looks like it's going to be time for a change .

i dont understand whats wrong with 754 really? when building my current system everyone i asked in here said my system would run just as good as the 939 equivalent.

754 - Is already "end of life", has been for some months now.
939 - Will be "end of life" by mid 2007

Main reasons AM2 -
Supports DDR2,3 and FB-DIMMs.
Ability to have multiple CPUs (can't be done 939)

AM2 was actually delayed for about 8-10 weeks until the faster DDR2 memory came onstream.

Personaly I'm happy, by the time I get my new whatever rig in Q1 2007 I will have got 18 months out of my 939 setup.

By Q1 2007 I will have the choice of -
1) Conroe - Lower cost than the projected Sept 2006 avail to "Joe Public".
2) 2 x AM2 K8 rev g on a "Torrenza"
3) AM2 K8L on a "Torrenza"

Way I look at it -
a) IF I can get two rev g AM2's for the approx same cost as a single Conroe, for me 4 cores are better than 2.
b) IF the K8L fulfills its promise and is priced similarly to the Conroe, then I may go for a single K8L, and save the second socket for a later upgrade.
c) If neither (a) or (b) is feasible, then it's a Conroe.

I never said there was anything wrong with a 754 , they are fine . The major difference is dual channel capability , which gives you around 10% if i remember correctly .  When i upgraded to 939 there wasnt a pcie 754 board out , and i never heard anyone planning one at the time . The main reason i went 939 was to be able to use a higherend video card .

Anybody heard of reverse hyperthreading? Will it really help the dual cpu single thread performance. I saw a link with a beta driver - wanted to see if anyone was dumb enough to try it :-)

Hi ace - bout time you got back in-game!!!

Reverse hyperthreading -
Yup heard about it, will require:
a) BIOS update (perhaps)
b) Update to Windows from Microsoft.
c) New CPU driver form AMD

Supposed to already part of ALL AM2 CPU's and maybe all rev f X2's.

IF it debuts, expect BIOS updates, AMD driver, and the MS patch somewhere around the end of this month.
