Ahem...Help!...again ;)
« on: May 11, 2000, 01:43:00 PM »
This time is less urgent

As I said before I got a new HD so I've spent all day reinstaling windows, utilities and all that stuff, but now I face a more or less big problem when I try to fly on Aces High.

No matter what Gamma setting I put on the desktop, in Aces High I always see the same dark colours. I had that problem once when I first came to AH, but I resolved it setting the Gamma as default when rebooting.

Now that doesnt work and I cant fly this way,I wont see a dot against the land!!!

plz help in this matter...too

Ummm,no monitor brightness is OK...in Desktop I put the gamma at the highest possible setting and I become nearly blinded   but when I go into AH, the same dark...is like going from watching the sun in a sunny day to go into a dark cave...

I would try deleting your video.cfg file and running video setup again in AH.

Worth a shot.

BTW RAM... this should be in the Hardware forum.

RAM,

Before your install when everything was working as  you liked it, had you installed a newer or the latest version of your 3D video card drivers?  And, are they what you reloaded on your system this time?  If not, then you might find the web-site for your video card and grab the latest ones.

Also, some monitors have a switch setting that brightens up the image.  This is different from the normal bright/contrast kind of buttons.  Does your monitor have this feature?

Good Luck!

Adding to what Buhd said, there are drivers for your monitor type as well, make sure you have it loaded under "DISPLAY" setting.

Don't know about your particular video card, but mine has different gamma settings for d3d, glide and desktop. Are you perhaps altering the settings for 2d but not the ones for d3d etc?

Hi RAM,
In the same spirit as Rip and others, please take this constructively You should post this in the Harware & Software forum.
That said, whenever you have a question or problem of this type, it is virtually impossible to give an informed and helpful response without enough information about your system. The more difficult the problem, the more critical is the need for complete information. You can make the whole process MUCH easier if you give a complete breakdown of your system HW specs, OS, DX version etc. so whoever might try to help you can make a proper evaluation of the problem and avoid the need to ask many questions of you in their response. If you go slowly and pay attention to the details you can save alot of headaches, lost hair, sleep, pet abuse etc.
BTW, with a new HD and a clean install you are in the best position to get everything right and optimized for maximum performance and stability of your system IF you don't screw it up So, try again in the right forum with the right information and I and others will almost certainly be able to help you out. I myself type so poorly that it takes me a 1/2 a friggin hour to compose a decent post so I dont even bother to answer unless they make the proper effort in their request. This is NOT a conceit but just a brutal reality due to my own ineptitude
ALL this applies to anyone asking questions  about computers, of course becuase they are extremely complex beasts and most of us only know enough to get by about them. A little knowledge and patience goes a looooooong way towards a happy and troublefree relationship with your box

<steps down from his soapbox>

RAM, sounds to me like you installed new drivers for that other TNT card, then reinstalled drivers for your own Banshee, no?

If this is the case, I fear you have been Microsoftized. Seen it happen to others and myself before, and have managed to fix it by a)runniing scanreg in dos mode b)using  a backup copy of my registry database or (most often) c) reinstall windows.

Welcome to the world of Gates - "those are FEATURES, not bugs!"
