Yeah I rarely drive em, but I've been reading a biography of Tiger Ace Michael Wittmann and it got me thinking.
Seems like the best compromise for Allied vs Axis tanks is to add at some point the regular Sherman M4A3 unperked and the M4A4 Sherman Firefly perked, along with the T34/85 perked.
One gunner in a Firefly killed Wittmann and his group of Tigers on August 8, 1944. Apparently the 17 pounder cannon could even penetrate the front armor on the Tiger I.
If nothing else, it brings some kind of parity to the tankers if they want to go Allied.
Good read btw if you are interested in Michael Wittman "Tiger Ace-The Story of Panzer Commander Michael Wittman", by Gary Simpson
"A Fine Night for Tanks" by Ken Tout, also details Wittmann's loss as well as the tank battles during Operation Totalize in the late summer of 44 around Caen to Falaise.
Some friends and I stayed about 2 miles away from where Wittmann's Tiger brewed, not that we knew it at the time. We did find his grave in the German cemetary in Normandy however. Fascinating reading when it comes to the ground war the British, Canadiens, Poles etc fought against the Germans from D-Day to the Falaise Gap.
