Casinos Join Casualties Of Budget Impasse

First the NJ state govenrment shut down.
Now the Casinos

According to our State constitution.
The State Government cant run without a balanced budget.

Failing to do that the state government shut down cept for essential personel.
And the Goverment cant spend taxpayer money.

The Casinos by law cant run without state workers.

So. What is the primary concern of our state government?
The Casinos being shut down. The same casinos that are the onlyplaces in the state where smoking is still allowed inside a public building.

Personally I think its a good thing the state government is shut down.
Probably saving all sorts of money. and soon the budget wont be a problem anymore.

With all the actually important issues surrounding the budget (like why do we pay 4-5 times what anyone else pays in property taxes, and get less for it), I just don't see why the big national headline revolves around 12 damned casinos.

Oh, and Cod forbid the lottery isn't running!  How will I ever win my fortune?  Say it isn't so...

Who cares?  How about the real problems?  Graft, corruption, greed, political patronage, gross inefficiency, questionable competence...

I case it isn't obvious...I'm kinda fed up with this state.

Government shut down because the governor tries to shove thru a budget with huge spending, record deficit and wants to raise taxes so he can spend more.

Seems the longer government is down, the more money taxpayers save!

I remember our paychecks bouncing back in the late 70's. None of the banks would cash a Government check, but Sears would.

Oh I know why they are concerned about the casinos.
the same reason that casinos are convieniently exempt from the smoking ban.

Thats where the politicians have their retirement package tied into.
the hurt the casinos they hurt themselves.

And god forbid the politicians suffer any.

this again goes to show what happens when on political party has all the control. Only on the other side of the fence. There is no balance.
Each side if they have all the power only knows how to screw things up more.

In this case They passed a budget.
Raised the sales tax to 7% and increased spending.

They didnt fix a damn thing that needed fixing.
And how much is a half a penny going to help with property tax releif?
What are they gonna give me $5?

On the upside. I bought my house 12 years ago for 127K and could sell it tomorrow and have people fighting over it for 400K.

There are places in this country I could go and have two houses, each larger then this one built brand new for that much.

My plan is on paying off my mortgage and doing exactly that.
10 more years to go LOL

It's too bad, because - outside of certain areas, Newark airport and the tank farms - it's a beautiful state.  The outrageous crowding and the inept government make a good thing bad.  And I HATE having my home state the butt of so many insulting jokes.

Once I talk the 'war department' into cutting the umbilical (she was born and raised here) - I'm cashing out.  Taking my equity and buying a better house a little further down the east coast (or maybe Texas!) - free and clear on equity, probably -  and saying  "see yaz"!

Boy, does this place need a serious house-cleaning...


**For those who don't know what we're on about, here's an example:  In Jersey - Own a 1600 SF home, 40 years old, 1/10th of an acre, part-time municipal government, shared police, one elementary school, no high school, no sidewalks, no sewer (septic only), no natural gas (oil), endless traffic = $7000/yr in property taxes.  That's $500 a month, kids!  A Mercedes!

RL Comparison:  Virginia, 60 ( sixty!) acres, new 5000 SF home - two new barns (big) - guest house, gas, sewer, full-time govt, dedicated police, award-winning school system = EXACTLY THE SAME TAXES.  I s**t you not.

Actually...not quite right.

Got plenty of 'em, plenty of tubes to launch 'em from, and plenty of pointy things, too.

It's a matter of timing, smarts and discretion...and it ain't easy...but it can be done.  Legal-like, even.  You can carry, too, with a permit...but you'd better have a good reason.  They ain't free for the asking.  Of course, that's not necessarily a bad thing.

OTOH, you can't get away from the foolishness.  In Jersey, anything that launches a projectile is a firearm.  So, technically, even a slingshot or an airsoft can get you a weapons violation.

I feel so much safer knowing that.

It sounds like they have lightened up a bit.  IIRC they used to not allow hollow points on the the few weapons they did allow.
