You guys don't know how to play football but at least you know how to make cool looking planes and cars

btw: From 15 years ago hundreds old classic and muscle-cars were shipped to Finland (We got Bob Hopes Lincoln, one of E.Presleys Cadillacs, lots of GTO's, Hemi-Chargers/Challengers/'Cudas, at least one Boss 429 Mustang, Buick GS455s, "Wing"-Cadillacs etc. Here's my co-workers '63 Cadillac in the summer-night meeting in Helsinki.
Cadillac club of Finland
Good looking cars would you say ?

American cars handle like buses. Guess they don't have many corners in the States.

Gimme an Aston Martin Vantage any day of the week.

I'm sure you've got lots and lots of corners.

We just put the hammer down in Texas and more than a thousand miles later we're on the West Coast with barely a sharp curve to be had.

Wanna run one of your family cars against one of our "family cars" in that race? We'll put 6 people in each one.

Want to run one of your hi-perf sports cars against one of ours in that race? (You don't get to take a truck load of spare parts and electrical bits, either   )

Different countryside, different design goals. Not better....different.

This may come as a shock to you Dowd, old chum...but ever since 1776 we haven't wanted or needed to be even a bit like you guys.

Enjoy your island...we'll enjoy our country.

Well they got their own SuperSports but also cars like these two

and

Dodge Challenger R/T "Hemi" 426cid. and Ford Mustang "Boss" 429cid.
Both cars are "matching numbers" and in original -70's condition; Even tires are old Goodyear "Polyglass GT's".
Pics are scanned from "Mobilisti"-magazine when owners of the cars went to the race-track in eastern Finland to see who's the king of the family (Brothers...)
My scanner is almost dead so sorry for bad quality of pics...

Oh really Toad, then please account for all the European prestige sports cars exported to your country? Why is it far more prestigious to have a Rolls-Royce or a Ferrari than a Cadillac?

I personally enjoy twisty roads far more than a straight run - perhaps you should come over here and try it sometime?

Your roads are too bloody small Dowding!

Had a good laugh visiting my old roommate outside London.  His girlfriend had a little two-door nissan she was looking to get rid of, because it was too big

"Why is it far more prestigious to have a Rolls-Royce or a Ferrari than a Cadillac?"

Because it proves you have more money to waste.    (Cadillac with the Northstar engine will smoke a Rolls NP.   )

Dowding what are you smoking?  The Vantage is a huge car, over 4200 lb!  It's a larger and heavier car than the muscle cars pictured on this page.

Sure its modern power plant and aerodynamics might make it a bit quicker, and modern tires might help it stick a little better in the corners, but it's still an ungainly whale of a car.

And if you did any sort of comparison between these circa 1970 US muscle cars and contemporary Astons, the results would be laughable - Astons of that era were DOGS.

BTW Dowding we've got more twisty roads than y'all have roads period.  It's the benefit of living in a proper continent instead of a puny island.

lol

"Puny Island" my arse!

But according to Tiff Needell (racing driver and car commentator) it handles like a car half its weight. You ought to see the stuff he does with it.

I wouldn't say no if someone decided to buy me one. Not that that is even a remote possibility...

Fatty - London sucks really. No wonder you're friend wanted to get an even smaller car - London traffic is terrible. "Too many people, not enough soul." Go north, the air is cleaner (well, in some places) and the people more friendly. Every time I go to London I find it oppressive - and I've lived in Newcastle, Sheffield and they're biggish cities. I have friends who are 'southerners' and public school boys/girls - they say people from the north are more friendly - shop keepers will actually have a conversation with you! Now there's a thing...

Porsche, Ferrari, AMG Mercedes, Turbo Bentley,Opel Lotus Omega,Lamborghini Diablo......

Except for the Viper GTS and the ZR-1 the U.S. hasn't built any real cars (compared to european models) since the early 70's.

Cadillac w/Northstar..good at neither perfomance or luxury.

Europe has the most economical cars... and the most luxurious and the fastest.

Dowding,

What would you say is a typical British designed and produced "family car"? One that the average family can afford?

What would you say is a typical British designed and produced "sports car"? One that can be had for about USD $40,000?

On point one:

The Rover 75. A very good car according to owners and critics alike. British owned company, produced in Britain. There are also cheaper Rover's that are also popular with families.

Point Two:

The new Jaguar X-type coupe which can be had for about £23,000 (much less than $40,000)). Produced and designed in the UK. Will be available soon.

OK, bring over a Rover 75.

We'll find an equivalent costing US sedan, put 6 people who are  feet tall in both of them and run them coast to coast. If it breaks down you lose...no repairs   . First one sea to shining sea wins. (and let's if the six that get out of the Rover have permanent back problems  )

Then we'll run the Jag against a Corvette, same race. Break down and you lose, no repairs. (Of course, now that Ford engineering is in those Jags, one might actually run that far.   )

Different countries and different societies develop different ways to address life and government.

Glad you feel your's is superior.

Glad I have mine...and that they are different.

Erm.. Sorry Dowding.. you can't really celebrate Jaguar's recent success.  I think Ford had just a little bit to do with it

And... the ferraris, lamborginis and such are all swell cars.  But to be honest, I'd rather have a 65 427 SC Cobra than any of them.  American muscle at its best.  Anyone know who first made the body(Time to come through for your country Dowding )?
