A woman for a President?
« on: November 08, 2000, 03:29:00 PM »
We had a female leader elected 21 years ago, I would have thought that in the mean time a woman would have made a serious stab at being elected president. Or perhaps the American public couldn't stomach that?

Hilary always said there would be female president by 2010.

If it were legal for Margaret Thatcher to run for president here I'd vote for her. But never for Hillary. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchenson from Tx. , YES.  Sen. Hillary Clinton (oh my god I can't believe I just typed that)  NEVER.

There are plenty of women who are qualified to be president. It's just that none of them are Democrats

I wouldn't vote for Maggie Thatcher - she's a mad squeak (and you can quote me on that  ).

Hillary seems like most politicians - fiercely ambitious and power-hungry. I'd vote for if she stood for PM - maybe we can get an exchange scheme going?

Hey, I'm no Hillory Clinton, but I think it could happen by 2010, maybe sooner.

However, we have had a dearth of female candidates for President.

I have nothing against a female President, but I would never vote for the likes of Hillory Clinton. And it has nothing to do with the fact that she is rumored to be a woman.

Dowding, it's quite remarkable - I have not met one single Brit online that has liked Thatcher.

Methinks she was/is a beatch. She needs to learn who owns her.  .

Senator Hillary Clinton. LOL. Oh well, she has as much experience as Bush, and he is gonna be the president prolly.

A woman president would be fine by me on one condition, she must be past menapause (sp).

Seriously, we don't need to most powerful PERSON in the world having hot flashes, irratibilty, cramps, and other monthly/change of life symptoms. Everything I have read and heard indicates that they can become irrational and very angry during those times in their life...dangerous indeed.

Yep, She sure sounded like it during her acceptance speech. Someone should check her pants, I swear she's a guy in drag.

Funny thing this. Way back when the primary season had just begun, Elizabeth Dole won my support with one statement she made that I thought sounded rather Churchillian. Her statement was that "America deserves a government worthy of her people!" I think Elizabeth Dole would have made a wonderful candidate. Once she bowed out, I threw my support behind Dubya.

StSanta - you surprise me!!

<sarcasm> In this country Maggie is more revered than the Queen. <sarcasm off>

Maggie was good for the country if you happen to be an upper middle class white, with a job in the City.

To anyone else, she was a bit of a nightmare.

I've got some information on how modern day politicians perceive her. There was a psychological test done to monitor the response of two groups of people to a series of images - one normal everyday people, the other politicians.

One of the pictures was a naked image of Margaret Thatcher.

Not really, but there was a picture of her amongst them. I'll post the pictures and the results when I get a chance.

I always thought of Tony Blair as Bill Clinton with an accent.  Does Tony do maids?

lol!   I don't think so - No. 10 Downing Street is too small for him to get away with it. Bill Clinton and Tony Blair have many similarities politically and the way they campaigned to achieve electoral victory.

Swoop - salute before you address a superior officer!!!!

Never said that I remember her being elected. But I come from a mining town that Thatcher destroyed. I do remember things that happened then, even though I was 6 y/o. Hearing the riots at night, seeing burnt out houses with 'Scab' written on the walls, collecting coal with my dad from the side of the railway because we had no money.

Thatcher was a disaster for my part of the country.
