Sprechen Sie Deutsches?
« on: July 09, 2006, 06:42:24 AM »
Would any of you German speaking players be willing to help me with a few lines in German?

I'm looking for the German of what a Geschwaderführer of F.W. 190's would radio to his squadron just prior to attacking the lead box in a stream of B-17s. The time frame would be January 1944.

This is what an online translation gave me for a few lines.

"Blauer Wolfjagdhund

Linie nebeneinander

Nehmen Sie den ersten Kasten der Bomber in Angriff"

In the LW guncam films "Boing" is used, "Angriff Boing." Would that be used in flight as well? Or some other slang, like "ganse"

If anyone can improve this I'd be grateful.

Thanks and best regards,

Cement

Blue Wolf's hound=Blauer Wolfjagdhund

Line side by side=Linie nebeneinander

Tackle to the first castes of the bombers=Nehmen Sie den ersten Kasten der Bomber in Angriff

Attack Boing=Angriff Boing

This is what they should be in american but you might want to get a better source than a 15 yr old lol.:aok

"boing" is a noise describing a bouncing or springy sound. Boeing is the proper name of a company that makes WW2 bombers

As to what they'd call out, heck if I know. I think they called "Indianer!" for fighters. They might have just shouted out "viermotor!" or something similar.

I think he wants to know what the German pilots would say, now how to translate what he wants in german. More of a cultural/language question than a translation. At least, that's how I read the post.

Krusty's got the idea.

And, yes, I always forget the e in Boeing.  :D

Anyway,

I'm looking for the translation of something like:

---------------

"Wolfhound Blue (if there might have been a squadron call sign like that)

"Line abreast

"Attack the lead box of bombers"

--------------
Presumably, as Krusty said, Indianers or some other slang may have been used.

Doubt if they'd have used the word for Bomber, but maybe.

Thanks and best regards.
