They were asking for it.
This border was marked by the UN and recognized as an international border. Israel stopped all flights into Lebanon airspace till the 1st kiddnaping of Israeli soldiers (they were killed) a few years ago and the refusal of the Lebanon goverment to deploy its army along the border.
The UN of course was displeased with them to such extent that it did not hasitate and gave them "the funny look". That would show them.

Still, the Hizballa is operating freely in south Lebanon since august 2000 and perform periodic attacks (about every 2-3 months) on Israeli patrols (on the Israeli side) and rocket fire on northern Israeli settelments. I heard on the radio that 12 civilians were injured this time.

I find it funny I agree with my prime minster, but this is not a terrorist attack - this is Lebanon attacking Israel and a "casus belli". I feel sorry for the Lebanoniese, but if they don't get their act together and rule their friggin' country, they can only blame themselves.
The Hizballa today is also a political organization and has representatives in the parlament. Therefore even the usual stupid excuse that it is an independent organization that did the attack will not work.

Silly sods. Just as their economy was recovering and at the begining of a very promising tourist season. See how many tourists would enjoy the sunny beach of beirut, the sonic booms of Israeli fighters and the candle light after the trasformators station will be bombed. WTG on screwing yourselves :furious

The middle east is just too frustrating for me.

i don't think Iran is "quite" ready for that.  but no question that personalities in Iran and Syria are directing events on the Islamic side... they are intractible...  they've already interefered witha  compramise solution brokered by Egypt.  the impression is that anti-Israeli sentiment is rising all over the islamic world and is being further stoked among extremists/terrorists.  its pretty hard to be optimistic about any kind of peace over there, in fact, it seems more and more likely Israel may gett backed up against the wall someday soon.

Maybe, the war predicted by Ezekiel shows that "Persia(Iran ) will be with them", and this war will mark the beginning of the tribulation

"""""""The word of the LORD came to me: "Son of man, set your face against Gog, of the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal; prophesy against him and say: 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: I am against you, O Gog, chief prince of Meshech and Tubal. I will turn you around, put hooks in your jaws and bring you out with your whole army-your horses, your horsemen fully armed, and a great horde with large and small shields, all of them brandishing their swords. Persia, Cush and Put will be with them, all with shields and helmets, also Gomer with all its troops and Beth Togarmah from the far north with all its troops-the many nations with you. (Ezek. 38:1-6)""""""""

i wouldn't assume this is just another day in the middle east ...   i hope im wrong... but the nuke technology is now in wrong hands and in spite of interceptions at sea, the technology will be sold, its only a matter of time.  You have not only the problem that the genie is out of the bottle and a weapon may be usedin the future, but right now, 3rd worlders all over the world are emboldoned, particularly in the middle east, and the nut jobs are cranking it up from Iran and Syria.

Now Israel is catching it on two fronts, Palestine and Lebanon.  Is this a cooperative strategy between Hamas and Hezbola?  What happens if another group is able to kidnap, say, a female Israeli soldier?  Israel already considers people in Iran to be at fault.  And Iran has already vowed that Israel is going to be vaporised...  Has Israel ever been closer to using a nuke?

I can visualize this escalating into a more dangerous thing than we've seen yet

Is it war?

I find it offensive to elevate the status of antisocial criminals and  murderers to warrior status. I prefer to think of it as arresting them, in the most literal context of the word.

Even our biological cousin the chimp won't tolerate in his society infractions of the nature that these nonhuman men inflict on ours.

just so you know The US won the cold war that one being WWIII, if you want to get technical the US won the first actual WW when we beat the limeys from our shores, the start of that departure commencing on October 17, 1781.  so this might actually be nothing but if it were to be numbered it would be WWV.

Have to excuse storch.  He has been through too many hurricanes.  The sudden changes of air pressure during those storms have a tendency to play 'whack-a-mole' with yer noggin.  :)
