Introducing and TrackIR question!
« on: July 13, 2006, 01:49:34 PM »
Hello all,

My two week trial is almost expired and i'm most definatly getting an account in AH2.

My callsign is 'stevie' (in AH2: stev) and my background of WWII simming goes back to the start of Warbirds (which i'm sure some of you know). Somewhere in '97 a squad formed called '1st ROF 322nd sqn The Netherlands' which I was a proud member of. After WBIII arrived we all kinda quit because it wasn't what we expected.

Nevertheless, we hopped over the WWIIOnline from the BETA. A most enjoyable ride, but no-where near the WB2.## experiences we had before that.

My boss/college/old squaddie/friend 'zepher' (in AH2: zeph) and me where looking at AcesHigh again 'the other ww2-sim' and i must say that i was impressed ! After 5-6 years we felt like 'the old days' again!

Rightaway we downloaded it and started flying again. The setup was nice and easy and it almost feels like we're back home! Oh yes, alot has to be learned again (especially the gunnery part) but i'm sure that it will work out - together with the great help from you guys: 'the community'.

I'm looking forward to fly side-by-side with you or you after a duel.

Phew, that was longer then expected. Now, about the track IR.

I'm using TrackIR 4 PRO which works great in AH2! Just, when i move sideways i can see the crosshair move to the side aswell. But, when i pull the trigger, my tracers also go that direction, and after a little testing it was possible to use it as a 'rudder' change without moving the plane itself but i was able to aim using my head. I think this is not supposed to work like this!

Now, it isn't easy to use - and I have not been trying to use it - only for testing. Anyone noticed this before!

Fellow simmers, have a good one!
Untill we meet!

If you move your head sideways, your gunsight will also move sideways.

That's how it's supposed to work.

Now, try using trackir while in a tank!

woot!!!!!!!!

Fun fun fun.
Time's fun when you're having flies.

Hi Stevie!
As a TIR4 user i can assure you:
You are never changing the direction you shoot by moving your head. You may just have the impression. Its just a matter of perspectives. Whether  you move your head or not, you are really always shooting at same angle and direction. Remember that TIR just moves your view like for example panning with mouse does, it has no influence whatsoever on any other things in game.

Gunsights in tanks are not reflective ones like in planes, so it does not work the same way ;)

Strange - I tried strafing some acks offline and while diving down i 'roughly' place the ack inside my HUD but no where near the guncross. After that i zoomed in and moved my head sideways/up/down etc to 'place' the guncross on the ack, fired away and ack destroyed.

Please note that this is a REFLECTIVE gunsight. It is not fixed but moves relative to your head/eyes. ONLY your sight is moving, it has no influence on your guns aiming or trajectory or whatever.

But to make it clear, this is a 7.7MB film i just made:

Here you can see my view moving left/right while zoomed in. You can clearly see that the stream of bullets I fire at the buildings does not change in any way.

To test or prove it you could use the .target XXX command.
It brings up a bulls eye target at XXX distance to your north. It's always due north of you.
To remove the target use distance 0.

Ah! It's proven i was wrong. I think my excitement about this "Discovery" did not let me double check it.

Thanks for correcting me :)

At the bottom of the boards we have Squad Forums. You can set one up for your AH flyers here. Just a heads up.
