Where NOT to be in Aces High at 2AM
« on: July 16, 2006, 03:07:38 AM »
Got mixed into a furball between Bish and Knits with BKs, 80th and some others having at it with the Bish.

In the midst of it I was chasing a N1K and was closing nicely, but hadn't fired, wanting to get to within about 200 before firing.  Next thing you know there are tracers whipping past me on every side and I think for sure I'm going to get clobbered......but no it's Raptor, Slapshot, Stang, Bugzapper and Doolittle all shooting past me to get the N1K with is just out front of me.  I of course got the assist :)

Doggone killstealers!  :)  You'd think by the image that they were all trying to shoot me....then again maybe they were?

Sort of reminds me of the old Jerry Clower story about sitting at the Ledbetter's table looking at the last piece of chicken.

Did any of 'em try to give you a reach-around? :)

Bleh!  I know this thread was posted in good humor.  But, that screenshot should win the AH-equivalent of the Pulitzer because it exposes the biggest weakness in today's community--the horde mentality.

It is so ridiculous to see 5 a/c all firing at the same target--especially when the primary fighter (Guppy, in this case) is already locked into position.

I'm sure my score would be better if I didn't TRY to hold fire when I'm not in the primary position.  I'm guessing, though, that our top scorers are willing to fire whenever a target is within 1,000 feet.

Chivalry is so dead today.

A couple months ago I was in a big fight over a Bish base, I THINK it was OzKansas. Well, I've been BnZing through the furball so I'm sort of high onthe pile  in an F4U and see a friendly going vertical with a Spixteen on his six.

I roll in to dive to build up steam and get a good position, then pull up into the Spit's 6-low blindspot, ~d800 out. I've got him boresighted and dead to rights, just waiting to get him in convergence, and RIGHT as I hit D400 (my guns are set at 350) and am JUST twitching my finger to fire when some chump starts firing from d1k over my shoulder (so he's almost 2k out from the con!). The Spit breaks and gives up on our friendly, but I lost a perfect kill.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

That exact thing happens to me at least once a flight. No shortage of sprayers in AH...
