I'm going to replace the liner soon as I have grass growing through it in certain parts. The ground underneith needs to be sprayed again with herbacide and then have the ground covering replaced as well. This is the old water and who knows how long it's been in the pool. I get it crystal freakin clear one day and then work d 18 hour shifts in a row and come home to a green filthy pool.

I was just out there earlier replacing the teflon tape around all the filter/pump components and regooping them as well. I had a few small leaks that I've been wanting to fix and today I finally had the time. So far this summer the pool has cost me roughly $1100 for all the crap that I've had to buy plus water replacment and electric bill for the pump. (its got a few leaks and evaporates like mad)

On a plus note the "Aqua Critter" by hayward has been a wonder. It cleans the bottom by itself and I don't have to vacume the stupid pool every other day.

Yup that crap grows through just about anything! I made a flower bed and it's growing through that stuff even after I double lined it.

HEHEHEHE it's been over 105 steadily here. There is also a pool, maintained by the base, less that 150 yards away from me. I don't have to do maintainenance on anything to use it.

108 here yesterday and today... AC just broke... I think I'll pack the wife in ice until I get it fixed... That should cut down on the noise.

my pool been running right around 90/91...was originally gonna put solar on & decided to see how it did without solar...glad I saved that $6k. Keeping chemicals balanced is not too difficult if you don't let it get out of wack. Maintaining isn't too hard, takes maybe combined 30 minutes a week. Also, saltwater chlorinator is only way to go.

Nice pool Sandman.

Yesterday we went over to my father's place for a swim in his pool, which is a nice resource given we don't have our own. The two things that have prevented me from putting one is are:

1. Cost (you wouldn't believe it even if I mentioned how much we have been quoted)

2. Our kids.

On point 2. there have been a number of horror stories in the past few years of kids drowning in pools...I'm sure it is the same up there.

Anyway...last night we were given a great example of why we may have been very smart relating to this and why I will not put a pool in until my kids are much older.

My daughter Casey decided (without her arm bands) to try and use one of her brother's "boogie boards" (like a small body surf board). She pushed off from the steps and promptly fell off. She sank like a stone to the bottom...of the shallow end (she's only 2). Her two brothers watched it happen and didn't even react....but to be fair they would not have had time to do so anyway because my wife FLEW out of her chair and reached into the pool and grabbed her. She pulled our 45lbs child out of the pool with one hand....straight up and out of the pool.

Casey was pretty scared and so after a few minutes I took her over, put her into a floatation device and took her back into the pool with me...all the time explaining why she must never go into the pool without armbands or the ring she was wearing....and NEVER EVER without Mummy or Daddy there.

It was a "fall off the horse and get back on" kind of thing...but with a lesson to be learned as well.

Wow..scary story...we have 5 kids ages 3-18. Oldest 4 all swim very well, youngest when we got pool didn't swim too much. Have lots of safetly features like fences, alarms..but you never know. Doesn't take long. Figured the best safety thing was to get him swimming. After few months he swims like a fish. Back and forth for hours..is actually pretty strong swimmer. Still, never leave unattended though. Probably be few years..if even then. Biggest fear for me is other peoples kids.

Now the cost is a whole nother story. Debated it for sometime, wasn't cheap. 9 months later though look at it as one of best purchases ever made. Kids are in it on a daily basis. In fact, most days I go in it as well.

Oh, and 49lbs. at age 2?? Good lord, what are you feeding that kid. That is HUGE!!! Glad to hear she is safe.

Oooh Sandy, to have humidity that low....

As a non-pool owner, how big a ding does that put in your power bill? I dont know the rates elsewhere but we're paying about 8 cents a kilowatt hour here

It doesn't put that much of a strain on my electric bill. I pay approximately $100 per month, but I do the level pay method.

Funny story.

So I came home today after working bout 15 hours (0345 to 1845) and my pool is a green mess. BUT i know that the mess is on the bottom and that's just the algee and stuff coagulating (SP?).

SO it's time to get the aqua critter earning it's pay. I set it up to vacum and put the filter on backwash just to make sure we arestarting with clean sand. SO anyways I forget about it and end up backwashing the filter for about 15 minutes. My first instict (beer in hand) was "damn that leaks gotten worse" then I noticed the first step of the stairs giving way to the second set of stairs in the water line wich NEVER shows. Then it hits me I forgot to put the pump back on filter. There goes about $20 worth of water.

Sounds like fun, i'm glad we only have a hot tub. When my aunt first moved into her place down there, her water was green too, she drained it over the "winter" the filled it fresh and got a lot of insight from one of the pool places by her house. Good luck!
