I tried the Il-2 demo, and it strikes me as a more refined version of BoB with an Eastern Front planeset.
Like BoB, plenty of details.
Like BoB, bogs down my system to unacceptable framerates when all of the graphics settings are maxed out.
I must say it still looks pretty good at 1024x768 16bpp, but even at that setting, I am maybe getting 15 to 20 fps.
I don't see any big graphics superiority of Il-2 over AH other than the cockpits. I will stick to AH as my primary sim for now: 30 to 70 fps at 1280 x 1024 32bpp.
I won't be holding my breath for the final version. My copy of BoB only gets used only when I want to see a sky full of He111s. I would only play Il-2 to enjoy flying the P-39.
I also downloaded the Operation Flashpoint demo... now that's a cool game. I think I will be buying that one as soon as possible. I am especially interested in the Vietnam game that uses the same engine: Hueys, Cobras, and M-16 rifles
