Keeping an eye on your own 6 is your responcibilty, and ALL check 6's are a gift.

However, the guys that really "frost my behind" are the one who use you as bait and take a week to clear your 6, and never give you a check 6. I am more than happy to drag someone for ya, and I'll even tell you which way I'll drag them so you can "cut the corner", but I can't do a good job of it if I don't know yous guys are climbing up my butt !!  I'm just here to help !! I fly best as a target :lol

handing out check 6's is good for everyone...if your good enough to fight 3 or 4 cons at once you should be able to click a thumb view on your hat and press a button.. " Im so good and everyone should be like me with great SA and acm/gunnery" is a poor attitude and doesnt help the newbs learn at all.   Im a decent stick with fair SA but I appreciate every 6 call I get.. Yes it is ultimately your own responsibility, however being smug and saying " I dont need 6 call's " is pretty arrogant, as is this post searching for reassurance on how great you are     If nothing else all the newbs may live a little longer, thus giving you a better chance of fighting longer and controlling the airspace....I saw you fighting on the deck last night and came to help you repeatedly when you were outnumbered..I gave you 3 or 4 six calls and you didnt return the favor once, now I dont mind because Ive played long enuff to expect to get picked, but I can see a newbs point of view. Although ranting on range "other than being funny" is not the proper course of action, If I   was him Id tell you where to stick it as well.

I just tell them I forgot to reset my Check6 key after clearing it for KOTH flying.
"Honest, I kept hitting the key and nothing happened!"

Couldnt say it better.

It IS good to give em out, helps everyone and its just...nice. But it isnt a right.

Dred has it right. I never expect a chk6, and when I get one, even if it is an accident not meant for me or for a guy that is on my 12 I always say "thanks" or "better to get one too many chk6's than one too few."

We had a bit of a problem with the check six's, within the squad, a few months back.  I agree, a check six shouldn't be expected.  If it were the you let SA drop.  Below is a post (ltar web) I made addressing the check six issue, and the whining that went with it:

insert:

…….so you and your buddy are driven down the ole boulevard when all of a sudden………….at the 10 o’clock in the front yard stands a long legged beauty,  and she’s wearing a G-string……. WOW!!!!!  Next thing you know BOOM!! You just rear ended the car in front of you.  Ya look over to your passenger and begin screaming at him “WTF didn’t you warn me!!!!”, and then begin verbally abusing your passenger , FOR YOUR FAILURE AS A DRIVER.  Is the passenger responsible for your driving habits, I think not.  You had become so fixated on the G-string that you forgot to keep an eye on your surroundings.  It’s pretty easy to blame someone else for your absolute failure as a driver, but had you paid attention to the whole picture, instead of one corner of the picture, the accident would not have happened to begin with.

Is there anyone in this squadron that doesn’t think another member wouldn’t give a check six call if they could?  Ultimately who’s responsibility is it to cover your butt…………YOURS!  You get a check six…….take it and run with it…….as if it were a special gift.  However, don’t count on it.  You’re the driver, you’re the one that needs to be aware of your situation, not me, not another pilot, YOU!  If your getting shot down while closing on a target…………..and then I hear the “WELL NO ONE GAVE ME A CHECK SIX!!” whine, then guess what……….tells me your suffering from Target Fixation & lack of SA.  So whine no more, if you feel the need to scream, whine, or beach, .....then get in front of a mirror and have at it.  If that doesn’t work, Walmart has a special on rear view mirrors, go buy one and mount it onto your screen.    That is all.
*******************************
Since the post everyone has made effort to improve SA & avoid Target Fixation.  Bottom line is ya can't count on someone else to watch your butt........:noid

personally,i think it is the responsibilty of every member in bishland to give me check-6s.it is only good for our nation to circle the wagons around me so as i do not get kilt.how many bruised ribs can a little dog take when ol' bricky gets nailed from behind(bring on the jokes, idare ya)and kind-hearted bricky goes beserk..kicks hound..reaches for hard-liquor and commences to wonder how the world would go to hedoubletoothpicks without him.so keep em commin...repeat after me ..nothing is more important than for brick to live. thanks for caring:p

LOL ... I gave a check6 to a guy the other night ... except he was coming towards me and the enemy, who I thought was behind him.

Next thing I know, the friendly takes it in the face and as he flys by me (a smoking wreck) he says over vox ...

"Slapshot ... they guy was in front of me you jerk"

I guess when he got the check6 he looked behind him, which caused him to take his eye off the guy infront of him ... ergo ... the HO.

MY BAD !!! ... :rofl

For the most part i give my out check 6 calls to anyone that needs it. The problem is when you cant give a 6 call and someone gets mad with you. If I am in a furball a big furball most of the time i dont have time to look around and make sure that guy doesnt have a con on his 6. In those big furballs i am always looking at my high 6..

Also i use the check 6 to let people know that i am otw. Thats always a good feeling to be fighting a couple guys and know a friendly is their to help you out. One of my rules i always give a check 6 before i drop in a fight.
