Fire in the Sky Frame 1
« on: July 22, 2006, 07:35:21 AM »
Here is a map showing general flight path. I think somewhere in the 11.11 sector we spotted some TBM’s heading North or North West. Did they attack C3?

Was uneventful will we were near the enemy task group. Twice our escorts spotted enemy fighters and we loitered in our Kates not wanting to be spotted. We were split into two groups. Outlaw leading the lower group of Kates with torps and I was leading the higher group with bombs. After turning south in 12.10 sector and then east someone finally spotted the enemy CV group We headed for it. Many of the enemy fighters were drawn low to the torp planes. Our high group with bombs had no problem diving in and hitting the CV multiple times. It was smoking and seriously damaged. Don’t know if anyone sunk it.

Shortly there after we were all wiped out and took off from C3 just as some SBD’s dove it. They were chased and shot down. Thirty minutes later 3 TBM’s came in to finish our damaged CV. Two of the 3 were shot down before our CV was hit and the last one was able to sink our CV. We then had to RTB at A30.

Was a fun night! :)

Daddog,
Havent checked the logs but I think me, Kermit, and Trainee of Unforgiven were the 3 TBMs to hit your cv.  You snuck up on us and gave us a good scare. We were calibrating and saw tracers whizzing by.......I yelled cons and dove for the cv, dive bombed it getting the kill.  Was an exciting end!  Salute all......was a blast!

I was 2 seconds away from letting my bombs drop on your CV daddog!!!!!

Daddog.

All those zeros were low except for you!!!!  Damn it!  You shot my tail off and that caused me to veer off to the left and then finally nose up and I fell outta the sky. :cry

That was a fun FSO.

Oh and we got your CV.  :D

If knew I should have filled that TBM full of lead that was just spinning down to the ocean from 10k.  I could have won an award in our squad -- kill stealing. :)

Was fun while the engagements lasted.

LOL WTG! Yes you sure get the CV!

I was amazed you guys did not see me. I started shooting at 200 and was pretty quick and free with the cannon rounds. By the time I was working on the 3rd TBM I was out of cannon. I was spitting BB's as fast as I could! When you were over the CV diving down I saw your bombs go and your rockets! Kept shooting... but you nailed it!:aok  Was a wild 30 seconds to be sure! When I get home Monday I will try to post some pictures. :)

Did the Axis sink any CV's and or ships? I did not even know if other ships were a valid target. We all dropped on the CV.

Axis caused alot of damage but none went down.  All ships are worth points, the CV being worth the most.

LOL, well I remember pavelow (fighterpuke bb name) was saying that he see's 2 high cons, little dots to our 2 oclock.  I told him that those were stars. He insisted that those stars were moving.  I didn't even see stars.  I told him to just pay attention to those stars then.  Well, as I was looking in my bombsite, I saw tracers.  I kept thinking to myself, why the f is pavelow shooting at me!  Then he yell's  "CON! 6 Oclock!"  I feel my plane drifting to the left and I wasn't able to drop my bombs.  Then I go to external and look back.  Then I realized my tail came off. :)
ForHim, I was having fun falling.  You should have stolen that kill though. :)

FighterPuke, Kermet, Trainee, better than screen shots, I have a brief 5 meg film of the footage I have. Forgive the quality, but I had to make it small on my dial up.
http://www.332nd.org/dogs/daddog/A6M2vsTBM.wmv

I was amazed after watching the film that the first TBM I hit with cannons did not go down. I was so sure that after I flew past him I did not give him a 2nd thought. The 2nd one I hit lost a lot of parts and did go down. When I did a ½ roll and then cut back to the last TBM (I thought it was the last and the first two were out of action) I never saw the other (first TBM I hit) diving down also. Not only that, the first TBM I hit got some shots off on me!

Enjoy gents. :)

I took a few screen shots. I might post those too, just depends on how the day goes.

2nd CV! Wow..

You know, in all the years in Squad Ops I have never heard of anyone sinking two CV's, but it may have happened.

We need a hall of fame for Squad Ops. That would be on the list.

That lil punk stole 2 cv's from me!!!!!

He used squadies as bait.  I told my squadies, if you dive in first, you will be the first to die.  Sure enough they did, but pavelow (fighterpuke) was able to get in there by delaying his dive and putting the last 1k pounds on both CV's getting credit for them.

:D

(BTW, fighterpuke is a squddie and I'm only messing wit him.  But I never lie about an AAR :) )
