Copy and paste image into Excel and you can expand to whatever size you like.

Its a bit blurry, but it shows him at 40-some odd thousand feet, indicated airspeed 367, actual airspeed 663 (I think).  But the calculated mach certainly reads 1 point something (looks like 00 to me).  I am not sure how that calculation actually works, but whatever, it's there.

Googled speed of sound.  Long story short, speed of sound decreases as altitude increases, i.e. mach 1 (speed of sound) is slower at 40,000 feet than it is at sea level.

BTW, disagree with your assessment of Fox News, but that avatar is still quite clever and funny as hell.:aok

Thanks for the tutorial on mach numbers.

The speed of sound at sea level on a standard day is pretty well known to be 761mph.  At 40,000' it would be around 660mph which agrees with the E6B. The 761 figure is what most people will tell you if asked (and they were ever given a number which they remembered)

It's a far cry from mach 2.  Not that you'd hear it.

I think the flight model breaks at 50k, above that indicated and true airspeed mess up. Looked perfektly fine till about 47.5k to me.

Keeping that in mind when you dive from 80k you might get a high mach number at 49k when diving into ah2 reality from above.

if you're at 49k & you dont have a decent Mach number, you're probably stalled

there used to be a bug in the c47 FM.  once you got over 40k or something like that it lost all drag or something it could fly like at mach2. never went up there myself. but i remember goons coming from out of nowhere for base captures.

not a 262, but I took a 163 up to 70k or was 71/72k? either way i was WAAAAAAAAAAY UP THERE! 70k hi and i could sse edges of map, in F3 i couldn't see my plane though, "so..." i thought,  " i'm pretty high....time to break sound barrier." Got into a 45 to 70 degree dive using up what little fuel i had left, and opend the E6B....wait for it.....waaait fooor iiiit....soooo clooose...mach 1.00...mach 1.01...mach 1.02...etc...mach 1.07 :D weeeeeeeeee!!! of then the ground was comin at me mighty fast:O ...but i managed to pull out to level without dying, of course by that time i was alreeaddy off the map, waaaaaaaaaaaaays away from any base i could land at, so i just droped the skid and slid into a hill.

.ef   booya

Highest Alt. (personal) 70k (possibly 72k can't remeber) :D

Fastest Speed (according to E6B) mach 1.07 :D

Regrets....NO SONIC BOOM...wtf?:cry

If any of you said you went higher then mach 1, get out. Game doesn't allow you to go that fast hell, I even nosed over and dove a 163 from 80k
