I have to agree, things will get more interesting if Newt runs.

He should get Ann Coulter as his running mate. The opposition will be so busy hating her they'll forget to attack Newt. ;)

Well... his only opposition is going to be the Republican Party. The Democrats are far too f e c k less. Damn profanity filter won't allow a real word so yes, I've circumvented it, Mr. MP.

I would rather the republicans got back to a limited government policy.   I am no fan of Bush's big government and big spending style of republicanism.

That being said... even the best "smaller government" republican is to big government for me...

It is just that there is no alternative... the democrats are beyond all hope for any real individualist.   They are about as far left as is possible and still out looking for more off the wall lefty liberal causes to champion.   It's like sean penn or susan sarandon is running the party with barbera striesand as spitual leader.

For a real treat, read the book review that is linked after the author's name at the bottom of the article. :)
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

Sounds like it'll be a great prologue to George Bush's biography, "Don't Blame Me" :aok

There are many roads in the future.

I don't think there's any way that Bush will be anything but slammed for his domestic policies/activities over the last 8 years. No legacy there. Well, maybe the best thing they'll be able to say is that he picked two decent constructionist SC judges. That's about it though.

While I think the Iraq war does not qualify under Just War Theory and thus has to be seen as the wrong thing to do, it clearly has changed the entire Middle East. 10-15 years from now we'll see which road this really put the world upon. It may bring positive change, negative change or maybe nothing will really change. Lots of possibilities but time will tell. If things break for the positive, he may have some legacy there.

Toad,
I honestly believe that 10-15 years from now, not much will have changed in the ME.  What's 10-15 years compared to thousands of years of tribal, then religous, then back to tribal, then back to religous fighting?

The only thing that will change about the ME is when the oil runs out or becomes less important to the world economy, and we all loose interest in the region.
