This'll be as much Fun as a Poke in the Eye

Just got back from a two day workshop in our camp at Mansfield, near Fort Smith.

The wife gave me a notice that had arrived in the mail while I was gone.



I have jury duty.


Tomorrow through Friday.


Aaaaaarrrrrrggggghhhhhh!!!

Take a book. Take a book with more than just pictures in it.

You could take some string and practice making hangman's knots while waiting.  :p

It is fun if you get selected for an interesting case. The one I was on was a fruitcake at a state institution who wanted to be released with "in house wards" (guys who look after said fruitcake to make sure he can lead a normal life) but the state defense started bringing forth all sorts of evidence of violence within the state institution, so after 2 days he changed his mind and decided to just be a Randle Patrick McMurphy.

You're on trial for a murder you did not commit.

Your fate will be decided by 12 people who aren't smart enough to know how to get out of jury duty.

or...you on trial for murder you DID commit.
You fate is decided by a lawyer who focuses on race and sways the jury that you're innocent.  Now it's the victim's family worst nightmare. (Hope hell feels nice and hot, Johnny!)

i served on a jury last spring, it was a "attempted first degree murder" case. it was very interesting to see how the whole system worked. In florida they use a six member jury with one alternate.

we found the defendant guilty of attempted second degree murder.

when you put on that jury badge everyone treats you like you are a very special person, well you are, you hold justice in your hands.

i was impressed by the intelligence of the other members of my jury,(including myself of course).

Not specifically, Toad. I haven't had enough coffee and I am going to erase it... :) I should not have posted it, but I've been thinking about the practice of governments outsourcing investigations to private companies as a method of skirting laws and judicial/legislative oversight, so it was on my mind.

Here is an interesting story though: Link >>

I know some people don't see anything wrong with it, but I think the trend that a few cases like this are 'fine' plants the seeds that it is normal and acceptable practice.

I'll make it a different topic later.

I think the punishment for false ID is more than 5 years; I admit I haven't looked it up though.

Shouldn't have taken 5 years to get him to trial though; I agree.

Not much detail on the denial of due process unless it was the time they held him without getting him to trial.
