is it just me or is the sound of a prop aircraft the best sound ever?? i love the sound of a spitfire. i think it the best sound ever. and love to listen to it.

what do you all think??

The Napier Sabre in the Tempest has to be one of the smoothest sounding engines of the WW2 prop jobs.

We have authentic Avengers flying around Fredericton coming in to land after being used to spray for spruce budworm for the province. What a powerful sound! When they come in low I stop the car, and just listen.

BTW the Province of New Brunswick (Canada) is trying to sell those birds. They are kept in top shape, and they will paint them in their original paint jobs and reinstall the original canopies for anyone who has the loot. I didn't dare ask the cost, but there haven't been too many takers by the looks of it.

but I dont think Hightech or Skuzzy would appreciate me saying what they are here

i watched a programme the other day on spitfire 9 apparently u can get one for around $600,000. wish i was rich id have one.

My old landlords friend in england is an art dealer and he owns his own dang spitfire, lucky $#@$#$  i dont even think he can fly the dang thing, but it is a true work of art.

     That sounds pretty cheap for a Spit, sure it's not pounds?  An average
P-51 on this side of the pond sells for about $1.3 million.

Last Spit I saw for sale was a Spitfire V and that had an asking price of 3 mil completely restored.  Granted the Spit V is a bit more rare.  Guessing 2 mil for a Spit IX at least.

Last airshow here Gunslinger was in the ww2 line up, my god that thing sounds like it was tearing  ***, none the less I love the sound of that plane, had to tell friend to quote {shut up!} so I could pay attention, geez I thought I was the only one in the world that walked around looking into the sky whenever a plane goes over..lol:D

seen too many jet's in my time. spec as my dad worked for BAe and build tornadoes ect. he even helped build the prototype and the finished eurofighter.

props just do something to me when i hear them.


i wish i had the money for a spit. then some cash left over for so i could learn to fly it.

Personally I love the sound of the mustang engine whilst doing a dive at speed

The sound of the supercharger makes a sweet whistling noise!!!

Every once in a while I'll hear a "big Block" flying nearby.

Usually, it's a DC 3....still nice to see an old aircraft up.

'bout once every 2 or 3 years, the Canadian Warplane Museums' Lancaster will toodle overhead.  Now that's real nice.

10 years ago, it was circling our farm....a cemetary was nearby...vet was being interned, they hired it out for a fly-by  2 hour personal airshow...

Anyway, around the same time, they were filming a commercial spot on our driveway (long distance phone commercial, hockey scout in Russia, our driveway is 1/2 km long, and there's a Ukranian Catholic church across the road they were using as backdrop), and my roomies old man (who's German) comes by thinking that this was part of the commercial.

"So is this the commercial they're shooting?" he asks.

"No. They're not getting in here till Monday or Tuesday" I say.

"Oh," he says. "I thought the bomber was part of it. It's been a while since I've seen one of those"

"Oh yeah?  When was the last time?" I ask

"When I was living outside Dresden; back in 1945. They were flying over us all day."
