This person onh somehow has #1 rank in fighters.  I would like to know how he has this on the account if u look at his stats.  They all zero and flown 2 sorties and landed 2 for a total of 8 mins and shot nothing down.  Think there a problem with the scoring system, lol.

I think that's just because he accumulated the time and sorties between scoring updates on the website...his scores have not been ranked yet so he has a rank of zero which is the lowest rank.  (At least that's what I think is going on) :)

I mostly just use it to gauge how I'M doing. This is, stats wise, my best tour yet. And now that I've jinxed it....

I use it he same way, Sax -- to see how I'm improving. This tour's giving me a different perspective, because I decided to fly only EZ mode, play safe, and filll in the boxes....I figure this is my One and Only Rank Run....just to have done it once.

Not only is this my best tour ever, I'm getting my best KPD, my best KPH, and my best (cough, cough) rank ever -- with only ~40 hours logged.

I've realized that scoring depends SO much on what you fly, how many hours you fly, and how aggressively you fly that I'll pay much less attention to my kpd numbers in the future. Next tour, suicidally risky fun returns!

Actually, I'm not really doing a WHOLE lot different. Still flying my Hog, still at times recklessly over-aggressive. I AM working more on staying fast in large furballs, tho, and using the vertical to reverse when someone breaks on me rather than slow down to try and follow them.

all i care about is fighter rank. if i think im going to get vulched or i want to try a new plane. ill just go to attack.

but if you notice i dont even have 1 bomber or vihicle sortie. they bore me to death.

Worrying about rank makes the game no fun IMHO.

I think this horse is dead, but I'll take a swing at it anyway.

Stats can be useful. The ranking system itself isn't worth anything- the number of um, shall we say, "creative solutions to poor ranking" illustrate that pretty well.

Exactly my experience.

But, I remember when I was just a youn pup of a newb somebody saying that you ought to go for rank once just to have the experience. It does take away the fun in some ways, at least at my skill level, because it channels my actions down a certain path....and away from other activities.

Rank is too easy to game to be a true measure of anything ....other than measuring the ability to get rank. Those who think lower ranks are automatically better players are clearly mistaken.

ALTHOUGH if rank is truely meaningless, then every newb should be able to top the charts, and thats not true either. Guys like SHawk and Lynx and Kazaa are much better than I am, and the ability to get simultaneous high KPH, hit %, and KPD does show definite ability.

OK, back to the original topic at hand. The reason that a person or several persons for 1 day have a Fighter rank of #1 is because of timing. The Score pages are updated in real time. The Ranks for each catagory is updated once daily at approx. 11-11:30am EST. The person in question just happens to log in and be flying their 1st Fighter sortie of the month WHILE the score pages are being updated. Therefore giving them a 0 Ranking which is rounded to 1 automatically. The next day when Ranks are calculated again for this person the Rankings will be correct. Any computer dweeb knows about the common spreadsheet Divide by 0 Error. This is also the reason fighter K/D is calculated by "Kills divided by Deaths + 1"

This is well known by Skuzzy I'm sure and at the end of the Month he probably removes any such occurance manually. The above is also true in Attack Mode,  Bombers and GV's. Just doesn't happen as often.
