Corsair wing flip problems.
« on: July 28, 2006, 11:39:20 AM »
I was reading in Squadron Signals book on the F4U Corsair that the ealy model F4Us tendancy to to flip the wing up at slow speeds was resolved by a small airfoil or wedge shaped peice of medal on the starboard wing outboard the MGs.

I have looked at a boat load of F4U pictures and just don't see it. Is this information correct? Looking forward to hearing from some Hog heads on this one.
Thanks.

It was a piece 6" long and 1" wide. It was flat, basically a piece of angle with one edge attached to the wings leading edge.

Thats starboard wing only I take it? I can see why now. I was looking for something a bit larger.
Thank you sir!
