Brooke, I believe you are the person who put together the "How to Fly an Fight in Air Warrior" manual a while back. I want to thank you for that since it got me up to speed and able to enjoy that game in short order. Downloading that thing on dial-up took forever, but was well worth it. After my second time of reading it through, I realized you were helping me live my dreams from many years ago of flying WWII aircraft, albeit in our virtual world. I grew up reading about Johnson, Tuck, Bader, Robert Johnson, McGuire and the rest. And here I was staring out of a cockpit trying to remember if a spit could turn with a 109 and how the 38 matched up against the FW. That manual had to take an awful lot of work. I just wanted to say thanks.

I'd like to also add "Bad Boy's" charts, "Soda's" evaluation pages, and of course Hammers site.

The books were 'teasers' ..Johnson, Tuck, Anderson, Galland, Sakai ..they all wrote of a fight or two where they bested their opponent, ... but rarely explained just how they did it in the planes they flew.

Sure ..basics are there.. altitude ..speed ..seeing them first ..but time and again it left me wanting to learn more of just how was the Mustang so much better than the 109 and 190 .. and just what the heck was a CAP ..a Point Defense .. a sweep .. and why didn't close escort work for some and worked great for others?

AW was the first 'game' (hah .. game my ASS!!) .. that had enough of the elements to actually figure out what to do when you see a co-alt opponent closin fast in a more manueverable ride .. and all the rest.

Talking to the pilots who put their lives on the line over the years ..we discover that we are indeed able to talk their language, we have learned just what they did, only they did not have the chance for a 'do over' if they blew it in most cases.
As Mr. Anderson said.. 'we had to get it right the first time' .. amen.

I cannot express how glad I am that Aces High continues to give us the opportunity to learn about what these guys went through.
It truly is everything AW should have grown into, and it still burns when I think of what should have been.

Just like you, and GE, and so many others here, I, too, grew up reading about the exploits of WWII pilots and wished I could have been a WWII fighter pilot. Thanks to Air Warrior and now Aces High, that dream has come true -- in a much safer and more comfortable environment, as GE points out!

I still pull that manual out from time to time... And the descriptions of the scenarios are just as good as the basic help in it

It may still be lurking out there on the internet. "How to Fly and Fight in Air Warrior" by Brooke. Do a search. The plane write-ups are for Air Warrior - not Aces High, but the physics of flight and basic ACM write ups are very much still relevant.

Ditto here on Brooke's manual. I still have it and refer to it. The exercises are great. I still can't roll and fire accurately at the same time though! Maybe I should stop chewing gum!

Another ditto on Brooke's AWTM. I still have mine.

LOLz ... mine was downloaded on a 9600 baud AOL connection and between the download and printing on an old Okidata dot matrix, it took a week. man...them wre the good old days!
