The Seattle thread reminding me of a local saying about seeing across the Morecambe Bay made me think of an event which happened here over the weekend... a stark reminder of how nature and weather conditions can cause tragedies to happen even on a simple walk....
A local man and his son lost their lives on Morecambe Bay on Saturday. They were a short distance off the shore when fog suddenly descended and they lost orientation... then the tide started coming in, and it comes in fast! The father called his wife on his mobile phone, who called the coastguard - and he could apparently hear the rescuers, but was unable to tell which direction they were in. With the dense fog, the rescue failed... their bodies were found yesterday.
