ehh but close enough :D

N1K does have auto-deploy flaps!

Just watch as the N1Ks make tight turns, you will see that their flaps automatically deploy.

I believe it is agreed that NIKs had auto deploying flaps. My guess is they will be added when HTC gets around to the PTO planeset.... in 2 weeks of course

This interview with Saburo Sakai is interesting.

He talks about the elevator responsiveness of the Zero, using that attribute offensively and defensively, the aggressiveness necessary to stay 40 meters behind his target, the frail construction that was a trade off for the maneuverability and about the time he almost bought it after a head-on attack -  2 bullets grazing his head.

Rolex, are you sure that it's Saburo Sakai?!!? Sakai lost his right eye at Guadalcanal! This guy has both his eyes and they seems not to be artificial... :p

I'm positive. I had a chance to meet him at Atsugi Naval Air Station Officers' Club in the early 1990s. He was just as animated. He was befriended and respected by all the aviators there, old and new. Ironically, he died a few hours after suffering a heart attack while reaching across a table to shake hands with a young US naval Aviator there several years later.

BTW, he was blinded temporarily in one eye from the blood from his head wound. He did not lose his eye.

Cc, I think I expected him to have a black stripe on the eye or something like that, lol. :p

Thanks for clarification. :)

Btw, 1k3, thanks for the link, I love Matsumoto (reading this right now).

Didn't he get wounded by a rear gunner of a US dive bomber?

Yep, right after he gets rid of the hand holding auto-retracting flaps crap.

In his autobiography and in interviews, he stated that he was closing on what he thought were Wildcats. They turned out to be SBDs and one gunner cut loose on his Zero, wounding him in the head.

I wish MY planes could do THAT!!! Oh, and yeah, we need to get rid of auto retracting flaps. They should just... rip off! Ive pushed my landing gear to the limit, and never ripped of any except once in a Stuka. Ive nose-dived a C-47 to the point the metal was SCREAMING, and never ripped my wings off. Its about knowing the limits of your aircraft. Let the flaps rip. Make a pilot FEEL his aircraft. Its very different here than in real life, but you can still almost feel your aircraft.

It was 6 TBM's at Guadalcanal and he lost the use of his right eye as a result.
