Can this camera take abit of rain and bad weather? I see pro and amateur photgraphers use these DSRL cameras in bad weather all the time without any kind of protection. Are they really that rugged, or do these people just gamble that they will be ok?.

I wouldn't take out the D50... The D200 has weather seals and gaskets but the D50 does not.

I don't know if they make a bad weather housing for the D50 or not but I suspect they don't. Maybe if you keep it in a bag and have someone hold an umbrella or something, but otherwise I'd guess that the rain might kill it.

I take my canon camera out in the rain sometimes but i put it in a small clear thin plastic bag thats made for holding food.

The "pro" cameras have real weather seals. The D200 as a "prosumer" crossover camera has seals but they're not as robust as the real pro cameras. I'm pretty sure the lenses also have different levels of sealing, and only the really expensive pro lines of lenses will have any real tolerance to dirt and water. Even so, you always see the pros drape plastic over the cameras so the rain isn't beating directly on the camera...

Get an AquaPac if you think you're going to get really wet, or simply a rain jacket for rainy weather.

Don't forget to turn your ISO up if its cloudy/rainy
