Has any one noticed  the skins download page has changed.

now you can down load individual skins as wanted  or just do it normaly, also  it shows how many skins there are for each aircraft.

Persoanly i think this is great  as u can download only the skins u want and use then in the MA  and as  a skinner i can see how any places there are left  for  skins  for particular planes.

This is  a great idea  Skuzzy thanks  for doing it this way

That is an interesting idea, but what if folks don't download a skin? Will they not see it when others use it?

I think it's a neat idea. I'm just wondering why.

We changed it to allow more flexibility.  On some computers, the skins can overwhelm them.  They are a huge resource, with the potential of taking up to 2GB of RAM, just for the skins.

This way everyone can just place what they want to see and use on thier own computer, without having to install all of them.

And like rogerdee pointed out, you now have a single source to see how many slots are available for skinning.

Any word on that skin pack that was tentatively supposed to release 3 weeks ago?

I just released 66 (or so) skins yesterday SunKing.

If the skin is RED in the hangar listing, then you do not have it.  If you want that skin, then just install it from the WEB page (the description in the hangar exactly matches the one on the WEB page), or enable the background loading of skins in the game hangar.

Any chance of getting a screenshot of each skin on the download page?

Heh, that WOULD be the next step, but I fear a time-intensive one.

I think that's the way it is now mustaine. DL in game or piece meal. Probably better overall (install the ones you want right away and let the server get the rest as it can)

I told Pyro that would be one of the first things asked for.  hehe.  The amount of time to put together the thumbnails and bigger screenshots make it pretty prohibitive at this time.

I'll bet someone in the community would be willing to make the screenshots and thumbnails, just a standard same view for each plane, heck it wouldn't take more than 2 hours offline to get it built up to start, then only the new ones would need the shot / thumb made.

now putting it all on the web page is a different story ;)

About resource usage from skins....

Is there still a limit on how many skins can be active at a time?

Is the primary performance hit from loading the skin up when OTHER guys fly/drive near us, or does it affect things even when the skin isnt active in our view zones?

Would it benefit those whose FR's drop on large maps to reduce the skins, or are those 2 different problems?

If we want to reduce the number of skins, is there any special procedure or can we just delete the suckers from the folder?

You think that skin page is done by hand?  I wrote a program to generate it.  And it would take much longer than two hours to snapshot every skin (403 skins right now).

Simi:  It's load time, memory usage, video card RAM usage and so on for skins.  A skin is just a texture.  We have no limits on the displaying of textures (as it should be).  Just removing the .res files from the skins folder, and killing the cache folder should do it.

Thanks for this Skuzzy...

When I fly AH I only fly one or two planes and hated having to DL all those other skins for planes I will never fly. First thing I did was turn off skin download delete all the skins from my skins folder and DL the 5 or so that I may use.

I just deleted them and then cleared out my HTC\Aces High II\cache folder and have no problems.
