Texans Stand Up

Ive noticed quite a few Texans on here. If your from Texas, stand up and be counted. Would like to possibly form a Texas squadron, once I get good enough on my own and get a decent schedule at work.

I lived in Texas for a while, first three duty assingments in the Air Force were in Texas.  Than, by the grace of God, I got sent to the great land: ALASKA!

Take my advice, if you live in the small State of Texas, move to Alaska.

1.  We are twice as big as Texas.

2.  Texas Bass are too small to even use for bait while fishing in Alaska.  Halibut range from 20 pounds to 300 pounds.  Salmon from 2-3 pounds up to 90 pounds.

3.  Three ski hills, and three salmon streams all in the Municipality of Anchorage.

4.  Can drive all day and still be in the State.

5.  No income tax, and no sales tax in most areas.

6.  State pays us an Oil royalty every year.  About $1,200 per person this year.

7.  No darkness in the Summer.  More time to fish!

8.  Our deer are called Moose, and weigh about 1,200 pounds.

9.  Limit for black tail dear is four a day.

10.  Limit for Caribou is seven.

11.  Black bear season is year round, although you cannot find them in the winter.

12.  We can still hunt grizzle bears and wolves.

13.  Best part, Hawaii is only a 5.5 hour flight due south, and a great break in the middle of winter.

By the way, do not get me wrong.  I liked living in Texas, but Alaska just has so much more to offer the hard core outdoorsman.  And yes, my wife is just as active outdoors as me.  She pretty good at cleaning fish, and not bad on geese and ducks either.

Not to mention that in Alaska, you have hundreds and hundreds of miles of public land to hunt on.  From what I hear, there is so little public land in Texas that you risk getting shot by the guys on your left, right, and behind you.

That is funny, my squaddie Sled is also from Alaska, and he is taking the weekend off to fish on the Keni.  One of these days I'm gonna get up to Alaska to fish for some of those halibut.

In Alaska a 60lb halibut is called 'chicken halibut'. Barndoors are generaly over 100lbs.

I caught 3 60 pounders between the baren islands in '92. One guy on our boat caught one estimated at 260lbs.

Besides fishing one of my favorite things I got to do while there was to ride right seat in a DeHav Beaver, 35 hours of scateating grinning...I still dream of those flights.

Last i heard the ratio was that for every 4 men, there is 1 woman in alaska.
no thanks! :lol

I'll stay here, where the ratio is 5 women to 1 man, add in the fruits and it's probably 6 to 1.   :aok

who needs to hunt when you have AH, an airsoft pistol, and squirrels in abundance.  Squirrels HATE airsoft guns :)

We moved to AK in 1982 when I was 9 years old, and not by choice ourselves. My dad was laid off at a cobalt mine near Salmon, Idaho. Despite his many years of experience as a geologist working for mining and oil companies in AK, he was laid off numerous times, and when the last breath of a good paying job presented itself, we got the hell out. Yes, the fishing was great, but I'm glad to live in a place a lot warmer and less expensive overall after 14 years there.
