Squad Skins

Here's a thought, expanding on squad nose art as sort of a half-way compromise between historical-only skins and custom skins:

Allow squadons to have a unique skin, either totally historical, or unique so long as it follows historical paint schemes.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

well, each skin is 1 MB, with what 300+ squads, thats 300MB you'd have to DL, store and display.

imagine being in a furball with 20 different squads in the visual range?

I think simply expanding the current squad insignia to make it more viewable and more flexible would be a better alternative...

The current insignia is 64x64 and very hard to see.. Harder to make look nice.

Perhaps a 128x128 or even 200x200 would be nice.

Any squad that doesn't need that much room could use transparancy to fill the excess (just as today - but who has extra room on that tiny canvass?).

This would allow for some very ornate markings more in line with the nose art seen on real planes, and would be more visable.
