Wifey's birthday coming up!
« on: August 15, 2006, 02:11:29 PM »
I've gotten my wife a couple of gifts for her 30th, wanted to see if y'all had any other ideas.

1. A Walther P22 - We both love this pistol, she fired many hundreds of rounds through a rental last year.
2. A meat grinder attachment for the Kitchenaid - She's been having a real tough time with ground beef lately because of the weight loss surgery, the gristle that's in most of the commercial stuff we buy is a pain.  My thought: We'll be able to grind out own stuff AFTER removing the connective tissue that makes gristle.

That's two homers, afaict, but I'd like to get some other small stuff.  Am I missing anything obvious?  She's planning on becoming a real-estate agent or working for HUD, if that helps...

If she's going to work in Real Estate get her a GPS for navigation around town. Also buy her a book binder version of the complete city map. After that, get her something for fun for a hobby she likes. If she really likes the Walther, that would do it, but a Ruger would likely be less expensive.

"Happy birthday, Dear!  Here's a meat grinder and a pistol!"

"Thanks Honey, I know just what to use the pistol for."

--- Get her a weekend at a beach side B&B in Lincoln City or other Oregon coastal destination.

LOL, beat me to it. I don't care HOW MUCH she liked the pistol, and how USEFUL the meat grinder would be.... playing with fire mate.

On further contemplation, perhaps I shouldn't bundle the pistol and meat grinder, that does seem to sort of tempt fate...

Chairboy,

We obviously married very different women, mine has a standing rule that she doesn't want anything "useful" for birthdays and Valentines day. I also try to also steer clear of giving her anything I'd like to get for a birthday myself (i.e. firearms).

Unless your wife is totaly unlike almost all the other females on the planet, I would suggest throwing in one item that is simply "romantic" - i.e. perfume, Jewelery, flowers, a painting, an antique item, etc. You don't want her to remember it solely as her "meatgrinder birthday" ;)

I don't know much about women, but I know this much. NEVER buy a kitchen appliance for their birthday, no matter how useful or practical it may be. It's like pulling the pin on a grenade. I barely survived the new $1500 stove of '96.

The B&B idea is a good one, you might also think about getting her a day at the spa to relax.
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.
Stay thirsty my friends.

Maybe an upgrade to her cellphone? Something with a camera, PDA, all the other hoots and whistles.

If you have a lot of family and friends in the area, through her a family party but you have to do all the work and let her relax. I did that for my wife. A surprise party, get her out of the house. When you come home surprise, music dancing she will love it.

What to get her ... I have no idea.

But if she makes hints about something low and sleek that goes from 0 to 150 in a matter of seconds ... do not even consider a designer bathroom scale.
