Man. whats is with these stutters?
« on: August 16, 2006, 11:41:28 PM »
Anyone else getting this

Solid framrate of 84
Good net status. I mean not so much as a hiccup or twitch

BAD stutters from time to time.
By bad. I mean the screen moves in chunks like its pausing sometimes, your typical slushy stutter others.

And yet other times. none at all.

the entire time showing a FR of 75-84 and no net problems

Tried filming it but as usuall when there is an anomoly I want to film. It didnt happen.

Got to film a nice 5 kill flight in a Pony B though.

I know what you mean. Had that once... turned out to be sound related.

Check your sound card drivers, make sure they are up to date. Check dxdiag, make sure Hardware accelleration for Sound is turned to Standard (3/4).

Ingame settings, try to change the setting for "Use Wave In". Its under the PREFERENCES > Voice tab.

Also, i assume AV etc is turned off whle you play?

Try disabling skins and see if that cures the problem.

Normally I get stutters after a new revision comes out. Re installing the game seems to fix it. for some reason
This time its different

make sure your computer/video card is not overheating or straining for voltage or amperage

a hot box and low amps on my 12volt rail to my agp 7800 gs co gave me the stutters real bad

@dreidiock if your graphic card has a heatsinkfan maybe the cable slips of the plug... sure to fix your trouble

@eagler i dont trust any onboard sensors that report voltage or temp, woul check with an voltmeter or some other relyable means

@dreidiock what motherboard? mine has the x16pcie and the first pci slot on the same irq, while windows remaps the irqs it still wasnt smooth at all when i have soundcard or network card in that slot

Dred, there are now 402 skins in the game.  Windows XP does not support enough RAM to have all the skins loaded.

Now, the skins only load when they need to, so it is doubtful you will ever be online long enough, in one session, to actually see all 400+ skins.

However, if you run into a batch of new skins on planes, I could see it causing a heck of a stutter while they load.

The best solution I can give you is to disable the background downloads, and then load only the skins you really want to see.  If they are resident on your computer and skins are not disabled, the game will make use of them.  If the skin is not present, you get the default one.

how do you "load only the skins you really want to see"?

do i actually have to see the plane for the skin to load or will it load anyways? I notice like with the sun, it loads each time I log on and look at it for the first time

I get a slight stutter now and then outside of AH. I get some when running movie files for the first time, exact same type as AH stutters. I get them in CS:S, but I've got that narrowed down to Valve porking their sound code repeatedly. I honestly don't know if there's anything wrong with my system, but I've got plenty of RAM, good processor, and okay GPU. I have minimal settings inside AH (default sliders), I have both optimizations, I have 512  textures, skins enabled (but not preloaded) and I'm getting some stutters.

It's the more recent lockups that have me worried.

Remove the skins resource (.res) files from the skins folder (default location C:\Program Files\HTC\Aces High II\skins).  Remove the cache folders for all the planes in the cache folder.

Then download the individual skins from the downloads page.  Disable the background downloading of skins in the hangar.

And that is it.  It gives you control on what skins you want to see.
