force feedback quit working
« on: August 17, 2006, 01:31:29 PM »
Hello,
I just picked up a Logitech Wingman Force 3D.  Last night, when I first started AH and enabled FF, the stick worked fine.  Later in the evening, all the forces stopped working and I have not been able to get them working since.  The stick calibrates and tests fine.  It also works perfectely in IL2+FB+PF and FS2004.  I have tried everything I can think of to get this working again but have come up empty.  Can anyone help me?  Thanks

I have been weeding through the threads on this subject.  It appears that fixes were made to FF in 2.08 patch 3 but it doesn't seem to have helped my situation.

Thank you for any help

Nope.  All I'm using is the FF logic board out of it.  No moving parts involved.  CH is doing all the "heavy lifting."  I do appreciate the concern though.

If you've had three of them, how did you get them working with Aces High?  I've had no problems at all with all the other games I play:  IL2+FB+PF, Falcon4, FS2004.  I just cannot for the life of me get the darn thing to work with AH.  I had it working at first and then it stopped.  I've tried everything I can think of.  Any advice would sure be welcome.

Thanks for your time.

Interesting how little response I've gotten to this.  I don't know if that means my problem is unique, everybody has the problem and I'm just Jonnie come lately, or nobody cares.

If anybody has any ideas about this please let me know.  I think I'm going to completely remove AH from my computer and reinstall it and see if that makes a difference.  After all, it worked the first time I tried it.

Don't think too many people use that Logitech stick . Or any Logitech stick for that matter . They are almost never recommed on the hardware board .

I had a very nice Microsoft FFB2 that I loved using in AH but it won't work right now since I went to Winxp , donno why either as some say it works for them . Mine would work for a bit then get recenterd to the side .

airspro,

I have the same stick - microsoft ffb2 (usb). Works fine in Winxp sp2. I use the default windows driver.

Best joystick I've had. A real shame that they stopped making them

I using the MSffp2 also.  Works fine.  Only thing I had to do to it is replace the buttons.  Pots still work great in it.

Skuzzy, any advice?
« Reply #12 on: August 24, 2006, 11:16:17 PM »
Hi Skuzzy,
I have tried deleting my copy of AH completely from my computer and reloading it.  I was very careful about setting up  my controllers in game and made sure everything was calibrated properly.  Force Feedback still will not work at all.  Do you have any troubleshooting ideas?  I have tried to plow through the config files but don't see anything to mess with.

This is very disappointing as it worked so well the very first time I tried it.

Thanks for any advice

I really do not know what to tell you here.  The three force feedback sticks we do have here all work fine.  However, none of them are Logitech's.

Did you try renaming the 'settings' folder in the base installation of the game?

Thank you very much Skuzzy!  Though you did not offer the solution directly, having me rename the settings folder sparked the solution.  I realize now I should have told you the whole story.  The only reason I didn't is because I was trying not to complicate the situation.  You see, this is not exactly a Logitech stick that I have.  I actually have a CH Force FX stick that has been gutted and electronically replaced with a CH FighterStick with the Logitech board which drives the FF part.  The Force FX stick came with two pots for both the X and Y axes.  The FF logic attaches to one set of pots while the "joystick" connects to the other set.  In the controllers config, I had been assigning the X & Y axes to the CH stick instead of the Logitech.  AH was getting confused by that.  When you told me to delete the settings directory, It set up the Logitech stick as the default stick and thus assigned X & Y to it rather than the CH stick.  I discovered the forces worked.  Just as a test, I tried changing X & Y to the CH stick and the forces stopped working.  Strange that AH appears to be the only game that I play that has a problem with this.  At least now I know!

Thank you again for helping me with this.  I'm a happy camper with FF and AH now!
