Evry thing you need to know AH2
« on: August 18, 2006, 01:36:35 PM »
IF you have played for anytime at all dont bother reading jthis it is a wast of ur time unless you have troble landing

I used to have TONS of troble landing (i mean a Lot)
but now i figured out a way to land not very graceful and youll want to practice the normal way but when u have a kill and you really want to claim it..
FIRST the normal way to land

1. BOMBERS:   slow WAY down on bombers at high alt i turn the outer engines off and put the inner engines on idle (if i have 4 engines) or if yo really need to slow down cut all engines off

FIGHTERS: idle all engines and get to 1k and i zig back and forth to get under 200 to put my gear down so it won't break.

2.BOTH: get lined up with the runway

3. slowly decend and try to land in the first 1/3rd of the runway put on breaks (`)

4 VERY LIGHTLY keep it on the ground if you push too hard down youll break ur propellers and if you veer off onto dirt you may not have anyway back on to concrete (you must be on concrete to sucsessfully land.)
all the while holding the brakes down.

once you come to a cloplete stop MAKE SURE UR ON CONCRETE:aok

The more fun reckless landing for if u just wanna land and dont have any kills

1. BOTH: repeat steps 1-2

2. FIGHTERS: find a hanger there is a building and a patch of concrete all around it land lightly on the grass before yo get to the concrete
DEPENDING ON HOW FAST UR MOVING THE NEXT STEP MAY VARY.

tilt ur stick or move ur mouse so the wing closest to the hanger taps the ground it willl more than likely break off this is the point

what happens next is pretty much outta ur control:aok
if u did it right then you should spin in a cicle and end up on concret just barly moving at all put on the breaks (you may have to turn ur engine off but it somtimes breaks the propeller so you dont have too) and end sortie:aok

BUT i have myself in coming up w/ this have flipped and died and ended up w/ no propulsion on the grass so if you got kills you want to claim dont try it

IF you are in a SPITFIRE MK1  or other ground colored plane you can try this.

follow step 1 of the normal method lin yourself up so all you hit is grass and you dont pass over concrete land in the grass like normal the slowly pull onto concrete YAY you have just used CAMOFLAGE (cant spell)
this really isnt too useful but if your desprate you may wanna give it a try

BOMBERS actuallly the steps above work more w/ bombers because you have more engines and they are farther out on the wingtips so you dont have to worry as much about breaking all of them but if ur in a JU88 or B26 you have to worry a little more than w/ other bombers because they only have 2 engines

For fighters this rule works backwards like the mosquito (srry i cant ever spell it for some reason) has 2 opposed to 1 engine so i just depends

Landing method #3

Carrier landings

Carrier landings can be touchy because some planes dont fit but u dont know untill ur right on the carrier,
There is an incedent where you may fall through the deck of the carrier and blow up but this is becoming rarer w/ the new updates

If you are in a plane you KNOW will fit follow normal landing guides BUT try to land earlier on the deck,

For ones you arent sure about ex spitfire mk V or P47d (these will fit but someppl are unsure because in the areanas they normally cant be taken off from the carrier.)
or KNOW that the wont normally fit ex lancaster  B24 c-47

Follow steps 1-2 exept keep all engines on incase you have to abort fast because of enemy planes or because you are coming in to low or high or out of alignment ect

for big planes try to getas far to the left side of the carrier as possible land as early as possible that u can safly

(i knowthis is very hard in the main areana because you cant directly look in F3 which would allow youto see where your gear is but judge your best :D)

once you tap keep the plane level and keep the breaks on till halfway if you arent already stopped decide if you will be able to stop before the end of the runway  if you know yes like you are just barly gliding alond then keep the breaks down
IF you know that there is either no way or if you doubt it dont throttle all the way you but about 45% and pull up and realign and try again.

those little lines on the very beginning of the deck  will slow you down a good bit so try to hit them,

You can also land on water aswell.

just follow normal landing steps exept that you dont have to worry about running into anything at all :D

RESERVED:
i will be online on H2H and will be practicing DIfficult landing situations

(any voullenteers pm me :D)
Ex. landing w/o a wing or on a fighter w/ one engine w/o that engine ect

i can tell you how to land w/o ONE elevator flap
its siple you just have to give yourself PLENTY of time to climb down or up ( i have infact flown a whold mission w/o one )
its one of those parts that if your missing ONE its fairly easy to continue

RADAR:
RADIO DETECTION AND RANGING
(thats what RADAR stands for its an acronym so is SONAR and LASER)
It basically points u out to the enemy

the solutions is

:noid

no seriously all you have to do is stay low because there is somthing called the RADAR floor if the radar looked below the radar floor it would show all kinds of fake items why you ask?

trees get in the way and so do tall buildings
so just stay low and youll be fine this mainly only matters for missions because you dont want them to see 30 ppl headed their way.

DRIVING:

For all land based vehicles

1 press E to start the engine(s)

2.  shift into gear (q)  and push your joy or mouse forward and youll take off press q to upshift and w to downshift

3. to go into reverse just keep pressing downshift untill it gets to R and go for it.

to shoot guns you have to go into other postitions(2) or (3) or maby 4

for PT boats

1. press e to start engines

2. throttle up

3. go for it.

i Will also cover other things in a minute :D

For a good landing you either need to do upwind /downwind/ cross / final legs and call out while performing the diffrent stuff of the checklist, or you approach the end of the runway at any angle, idle the engine and pull a 180-360 degrees tight turn to kill the speed right above the treetops.

I would be glad if any real pilot (or someone knowledgable there) would post the korrekt way to do it (alt/turning points/distances) (i know atleast rolex knows how it was correctly done on the RAF/US - carriers, what was the japanise procedure?).

Killing the engines on multi engine planes with autofeathering props gives you less slow down than having them on idle, so on planes where the prop stops spinning when you kill the engine i would NOT shut them off to descent/slow down.

Trying to do an actual "proper" landing in AHII is kinda hard, because you're very vulnerable for a long (subjective) period of time.

Runways are numbered according to the cardinal direction they're pointed. Every field has a 45-225 runway in AHII, so I'll use that runway as my reference.

In real life, the atc will open and close runways based on wind direction.  All landings and take-offs are as close to upwind as possible, IE- if the wind is from 225° (southwest), runway 225 will be the operational runway for take-offs and landing. In AHII, there is no wind, so anyone can land and take-off on any runway.

The proper way to land is to fly downwind, (northeast) parallel to the field (you should never fly over the field, other aircraft are trying to take-off and land). Fly northeast, away from the field at approximately 5000ft alt (FL05= flight level 5 or 5000ft. Most small craft fly at a flight level between 05 and 15, or 5,000ft to 15,000ft) and 50% power. This is the slowdown leg of the landing. 5 miles from the base, perform a slow 90° turn based on which direction the base was from you when you overflew it. If it was on your left, turn left 90° to a heading of 315°, or northwest. At this point, you should be slow enough to drop gear. Adjust throttle to maintain level flight with gear down. When you can look left and see the runway before it lines up with your wingtip, execute another 90° turn and line your nose up with the runway. You should now be traveling at heading 225°, level flight (FL05) at about 130-160mph. In real life, you would only use the yoke to change horizontal direction at this point, and throttle to change vertical direction. Set your gun sight at the first quarter of the runway by throttling up and down. You should not use the stick, but to steer left and right. With your gun sight at the first quarter line (imaginary, you won't actually see it), you'll want to be at gear down, between 120-140mph and diving at about 1000-1500ft/min. Depending on your aircraft, you may need to start deploying flaps. At about 100ft up, you will start to roll the nose up with the stick and probably cut throttle. This is the landing flare. If done correctly, you will probably loose sight of the runway, speed will drop rapidly and you will probably still be falling from the sky at around 500ft/min. Continue to add back pressure to the elevators (trying to climb) until you slow down enough to add brakes without flipping forward.

True take-offs and landings are the hardest part of flying. You are attempting to do three to four things all at once. For those actually wanting to learn the "proper" way to do this without actually going out and buying a pilots license, I would recommend the latest MS Flight Simulator (2004- A Century of Flight). This program appears to have a very realistic flight model and physics, and a very good atc to talk you into your proper approach vector.

Now, I don't actually land my plane like this in AHII. Like I said, the pilot is very vulnerable on approach. The only thing I do the same is the flare.

Actually, it's much easier to spend 10 minutes with a Trainer. Mouse users take a lil longer though :)

Who uses gear??? I just add my custom skid pads on the bottom of my plane. :D
Plus, do you know Carrier's planes have hook to catch the wires at the end of the CV to  stop you. Then for real fun accelerate with the hook still on. Can you say slingshot!:lol .  Also, for non carrier planes use your hand out the back works well till you have to slow yourself down.

What's a landing?  Doesn't ring a bell for me.  I heard about it once but I never play offline, so what's the point?

Well Fogy *says* he's going to start flyin again, but that's after his golfing season is over.

Yea, it has been a long time--what once was old is now new again. I haven't been flying much, maybe once a month, so I'm hardly proficient. H*ll, RedTop was draggin a Spit for me the other night and I couldn't manage to get enough lead on target to knock it down. Did eventually get two kills that sortie--prolly from pointers I picked up here. ;)

Flying in game as awMags, Knights usually. I'll be on the look-out for ya. Maybe we can crash in unison with our gear down, tinfoil hat optional of course!

Well now lets take a guess the only things im actually very good at is stuff that you rarely have 2 do in teh game so what i am trying to say is that

OMG THERE IS SOMTHIN BEHIND U:noid

no really sorta like the wiki in a way so you dont have to pick out stuff from thread to thread for example

i have NO CLUE WHATSOEVER about what combat trim is for, things like that you wondered when you were new
