Some confusing comments on here. America has 40 to 45 murders a day, not 'thousands' (I assume that comment wasn't literal). The worst parts of America have the tightest gun laws and vice-versa.

In another thread I listed numerous cities in South Africa and South America which have enormous levels of homicides - in parts of the world which have tight gun laws. New York has long had tight-arse gun laws as well.

Gun killers in almost every case do not purchase their guns legally as you get registered and stuff. Is that a surprise?

xmarine...  many of my friends have just gotten their cc permits in northern kalifornia counties like butte.   It is not that difficult.  There are some free counties in northern kalifornia unlike where you live.

I will probly move to arizona in any case.   When too many metrosexuals and los angeles dwellers move there and screw it up I will move somewhere else.

moot...Build hot rods for cheap?   I probly said that I build em for cheap... that is in contrast to the 60-300k ones that all the shops are building and that I have no interest in.

I just throw stuff together in the garage and put it in primer and drive the crap outta it.  They are scorned as "rat rods" by the elite.

A good DVD series is "mad fabricators society" on the culture of rat rods...

Hot rods should be built by the owner.   The owner should know what kind of engine and trans is in it.   It shouldn't look like a lump of candy left out in the sun a little too long either.

I do most things cheap so that I can do more of em..  I reload ammo so that I can shoot thousands of rounds instead of hundreds.  I'm not a wealthy guy.

I get a kick out of all the people who ask me when am I gonna paint the Healey.    "it will look really good when you finish it."

I like the one on the left.  That would make a good daily driver as is...though it needs to be dented up more for just the right look.

to me... guns and hot rods and real motorcycles  go together.   Or.. at least they used to.

The cars in those pics are deceptively expensive.   Some guys are spending more on "semi flat" paint jobs than on show car paint jobs to get the look we got with rattle cans or ancient compressors in the garage on dirt floors.

the old motors cost more than pumped up small block chevies and sometimes more than a big block.   Priced a 37 lasalle trans lately?  How bout a quick change rear end?

In the old days I put 371 and 394 olds rocket and buick nailhead V8's in chevies and fords because they were $50 at the wrecking yard and made over 300 hp when small block chevies making 180 hp were $500..  those days.. and the reason for em... are gone.    A muncie 4 speed can be had for a couple hundred bucks.... something we craved back then.   Small block chevie for $50 or so.... my son bought a 454 out of a motor home for $200 and put in his $800 60 chevy 2 door coupe.

the point behind hot rods and guns is the same.... choice and... individualism.

a lot of the guys on this board will die never understanding either.

I had a 45 inch flathead...  a 46  3 speed side shift.  gutless but cool.   Had an 80 inch flathead that was way neater.

yep.. old stuff is fun.

You can still build neat hot rods for cheap but you may not get to build a 32 ford.

seen a 55 2 door hardtop pontiac mostly all there...  $500 woulda drove it away...   My son let a 57 buick split window get away that he had paid $800 for and it had a running nailhead in it.
