Actually with the possible exception of Spanish (Hispanic) they are nationalities. Not race.

But I've noticed National pride. Particularly in this country can be as prominent as pride in ones race.
Probably more so.

If they were a subgroup that continued to speak in a brogue that no one but them could understand and had their own clothes and music..... there might still be resentment.

Oh trust me my pride in my country is way more important to me that where my ancestors came from or what they were. Don't talk bad about the US in my apartment, unless your willing to do something to help change it.
