« on: August 23, 2006, 11:14:48 AM »
I looked over the list of potential presidential contenders, and I don't know who I'd vote for.

I do however know who I would not vote for.

Joe Biden
Sam Brownback
Jeb Bush
Dick Cheney
Tom Daschle
Howard Dean
John Edwards
Bill Frist
Rudy Giuliani
Al Gore
Mike Huckabee
John Kerry
Dennis Kucinich
Condoleeza Rice

Then you may not be voting. Sometimes you have to choose between the lesser of two evils.

I have mixed feelings about McCain. I haven't ruled him out completely.

That type of thinking is why we keep getting evil as our only choices.  There are plenty of third parties.

Lieberman warns of Iraq pull out consequences:

Mr. Lieberman also reiterated his belief that the war against terrorists could drag on for several years, and that pulling troops out of Iraq would allow the Iranian government to move in and would increase the price of oil.

“If we walk away, then the Iranians will — as sure as I am talking to you — surge into Iraq, certainly take over the south and the oil that’s there,” he said. “We’ll be paying six or seven bucks a gallon. And that’ll just be the tip of it. I mean, there’ll be instability and war throughout the Middle East. We’ve got to wake up to this. It is the test, unfortunately, of not just this generation of American leaders, but of the next generation as well, because this enemy ain’t going away.” [/quote[

More than a bit off topic but since oil prices have come up I thought I'd mention that I've been somewhat following the forums on the Steorn site, those guys claiming to have discovered "free energy" using magnets. There are several threads devoted to the perils of siphoning off the earth's magnetic field. Just thought you might find that as amusing as I.

Back to who we aren't voting for.

I like a lot of Dennis Kucinich's positions, but he doesn't have a snowball's chance.

sandie... I won't be voting for any of them either unless it is one of the republicans on the list against a democrat.

It is a suckers move to vote for a democrat because you aren't ever voting for the person you are voting for their voting record...  and it is allways bad.

Actually, I believe Ross's candidacy was very valuable. I believe both Clinton and Congress took the almost 20% of the votes that he collected to be a strong sign that the status quo wasn't acceptable - causing our government to be much closer to centrist than left than it otherwise might have been.
